The Sapporo Clock Tower, one of Sapporo's most iconic historical buildings, is a crucial symbol of Hokkaido's pioneering era. Built in 1878, it originally served as a martial arts training ground for the Sapporo Agricultural School. The clock tower still operates regularly, its melodious chimes a part of the city's landscape.
The tower's white wooden exterior, accented by a red roof, stands out amidst the teeming modern skyscrapers. While the building itself is small, it holds profound historical significance, with historical materials and artifacts displayed within.
The clock tower's walls also feature the "red star," the symbol of the Kaitakushi (the pioneer envoy), a symbol found on many buildings related to Sapporo's pioneering history. Admission is required for ¥350 per adult, and tickets can be purchased together with the Sapporo Tower for a more economical price.
