What is Sosokkak and Where is It?

Sosokkak, also known as the "Garden of Contemplation," is located in the southwest part of Jeju Island, near Seogwipo City's Andeok-myeon (안덕면). Its somewhat "off-center" location (neither extreme west nor extreme south) might be why it's often overlooked, but don't let that deter you! It's about 40 kilometers from Jeju City, roughly an hour's drive.

This isn't just any garden; it's Asia's largest bonsai-themed garden, also known as the "Bonsai Art Garden." It's the life's work of Korean bonsai artist Seong Beom-yeong, who dedicated over 50 years to its creation. The name "Sosokkak" itself beautifully translates to "place of thought and healing," and you'll certainly feel that tranquility as you explore.

Inside, you'll discover over 2,000 bonsai masterpieces, some centuries-old ancient trees, traditional Jeju stone walls, and serene flowing water landscapes. It's a truly immersive experience that invites contemplation and offers a deep sense of peace.
