The Bund dates back to the mid-19th century, when it became the center of international settlement after the Treaty of Nanjing (1842).

During this period, foreign powers such as Britain, France, the United States, and others established banks, trading houses, consulates, and clubs along the waterfront.

As a result, the Bund became a symbol of both colonial influence and Shanghai’s emergence as a global financial hub.
