Shanghai Street Photography | Sichuan Middle Road: An Architectural Poem Through Time

🏙️The Bund's international architecture cluster is too crowded❓
Turn a corner and walk into Sichuan Middle Road🚶‍♂️
Here lies a more tranquil code of time
▫️
📍 Route Highlights: One street, half of Shanghai's history
Sichuan Middle Road is one of Shanghai's 64 historic streets that will "never be widened." It runs from Yan'an East Road in the south to South Suzhou Road in the north, with a total length of 1,270 meters. It lacks the hustle and bustle of the Bund but condenses the architectural essence from the late 19th to early 20th century—Art Deco, Neoclassicism, and Eclecticism collide here, as if walking into an open-air architectural museum.

📸 Must-visit photo spots: Understand old Shanghai through your lens
1️⃣ 【Jiujiang Road × Sichuan Middle Road Intersection】
📍 Photo spot: Opposite the Shami Building
📷 The Art Deco facade of the Shami Building and the Jiujiang Road bank buildings appear in the same frame; a telephoto lens compresses the space, capturing the depth of the "financial street."
💡 Bonus: Jiujiang Road is known as "China's banking street" due to its historic bank buildings. The Amway Building at the corner (simplified English classical style) makes an excellent foreground.
▫️
2️⃣ 【Dianchi Road × Sichuan Middle Road Intersection】
📍 Photo spot: In the gap of the Bund's Bank of China Building
📷 Shooting tip: Shoot from a low angle looking up, using the gap between two buildings to frame the Bank of China's pointed roof, creating a "picture within a picture" effect.
▫️
3️⃣ 【Above No. 312 Sichuan Middle Road, Hongshun Leather Goods Store】
📍 Photo spot: Partial view of the former Shanghai Industrial Bank Building
🔍 This was once an important financial institution during the Republic of China era. Now, the vintage sign of the leather goods store contrasts with the weathered wall, capturing a narrative of "old meets new."

🚶 Citywalk Tips
Outfit suggestion: Vintage-style shirt/long skirt + beret to better match the architectural style~
Transportation guide: Exit 6 of Nanjing East Road Station on Metro Lines 2/10, a 5-minute walk away.
