The Stone Forest—or Shilin—is a UNESCO‑listed karst landscape featuring towering limestone pillars that resemble petrified trees across 400 km² . Thought to be over 270 million years old, the formations include Naigu Stone Forest and Suogeyi Village, connected by trails and caves like Qifeng and Zhiyun. According to visitors:
> “Stone Forest … definitely worth visiting… can be done in 3 hours leisurely”
Ideal for geotourism, photography, and folk-legend walks, Shilin offers striking visuals and a sense of ancient wilderness, just over an hour’s drive from Kunming.
