High Mountain Chinese Ramen: A Takayama Specialty

It is said that Chinese ramen is a specialty of Takayama in the Hokuriku region, and among them, Menya Shirakawa is the most famous ramen shop. It is also well-known as a 'queue ramen' spot 🚶🏼♀️🚶🏻🚶🏻♂️. On this day, when we passed by the main branch of Menya Shirakawa, we saw a long line of people from afar 😂. Not wanting to wait in line, we continued walking to find food. About 50 meters away, we spotted a newly opened ramen shop. Although there was a small queue, the line moved quickly. During the lunch rush, we only waited about 10 minutes at the entrance before being seated 😌.

While waiting in line, we discovered something surprising‼️ This shop turned out to be a new branch of Shirakawa Ramen 😆. And just like that, we unexpectedly got to try this famous ramen 🍜🤭.

Although I personally don't have strong feelings about ramen 🫣, I found this bowl to be quite delicious. However, the soup was still very salty 😂 #DrinkLotsOfWater💦. This time, I only tried the signature Chinese soba noodles 🍜. For those who enjoy spicy food, the popular Shirakawa Dan Dan noodles are said to be very satisfying. I guess I'll have to try them next time 😌.

Later, I checked online reviews and found that many people said the taste between the two locations is almost identical. So, if you don't have a strong preference for the main branch, you can consider this new branch. A little tip for travelers planning to enjoy a bowl of ramen in Hida Takayama～
