4-Day Japan Tour: A Super Detailed Guide You Must Save

When we first discussed Nagoya with my travel companion, we were torn between hiking in Takayama and other options. Then, my companion casually mentioned, "Shirakawa-go is quite unique," and that instantly sealed the deal for me. It was all because the name "Shirakawa-go" struck my funny bone. Honestly, I can be quite quirky, often making decisions without much rhyme or reason.
Over the past few days, we've been trekking through mountains and valleys, with hardly a day of proper rest. This day was no exception—we woke up early, took the Shinkansen from Osaka to Nagoya, and rushed to catch an 8 a.m. tour.
Initially, I had considered traveling there on our own, but thanks to my companion's mention of "Shirakawa-go," I decided to join a tour instead. This little detail remains a secret from my companion, as I've never shared it—haha.
The tour first took us to Hida Takayama, where we strolled through the charming old streets. We indulged in delicious Hida beef and Koshihikari rice. My companion and I briefly went our separate ways here, as I visited Hie Shrine to fulfill my "Your Name" pilgrimage dream.
The final stop of the tour was my companion's so-called "Shirakawa-go," which is actually Shirakawa-go. As a child, I occasionally caught glimpses of this village in historical dramas, often blanketed in snow and illuminated by soft lights, creating a dreamy atmosphere. In reality, we were greeted by fresh air, adorable thatched-roof houses, clear streams, colorful koi fish, and charming monkey baby dolls. It was a warm and welcoming sight.
