Hey everyone👋! Yesterday, I shared the stunning views of Ziyun Peak, and today I’m here to give you the ultimate route guide! Not only can you enjoy breathtaking sea clouds and sunsets, but the climbing routes are super beginner-friendly, and the hotel you stay at after descending is incredibly relaxing.
🌟Ziyun Peak: A Hidden Gem in Central Hunan + Clear Climbing Routes
Ziyun Peak, with an altitude of over 800 meters, is an ecological mountain in Shuangfeng perfect for hiking. It’s just a one-hour drive from the county to the parking lot at the foot of the mountain. There are two main routes to the summit: the "Leisure Route" for beginners and families, and the "Adventure Route" for those seeking a challenge. Both offer stunning views!
✅Leisure Route (Recommended for Beginners/Families): Start at the "Ziyun Visitor Center" at the foot of the mountain. The route follows a stone-paved path, about 3.5 kilometers long, taking 1.5–2 hours to complete. The first kilometer winds through bamboo forests with gentle steps, and there are two rest stops along the way: "Qingfeng Pavilion" and "Cui Zhu Station," where you can sit, sip water, and listen to the rustling bamboo leaves. At the 1.5-kilometer mark, you’ll reach "Wangxiang Terrace," where the view opens up for the first time, revealing villages nestled among fields—perfect for your first panoramic photo. Continuing upward for another kilometer, you’ll pass the "Millennium Ginkgo Tree," a massive tree requiring two people to hug its trunk. Its golden leaves in autumn are a must-see photo spot. The final 0.5 kilometers are slightly steeper but equipped with handrails. Once you reach the summit, you’ll arrive at the entrance of "Ziyun Temple," where you can explore the ancient temple and admire the sea of clouds.
✅Adventure Route (Recommended for Hiking Enthusiasts): Start at the "Wild Trail Entrance" next to the parking lot. This route is 2.8 kilometers long and takes about 1.2 hours. It mostly consists of forest dirt paths, so wear non-slip shoes. Follow the red ribbon markers through tea gardens and mixed woodlands for an up-close experience of the wilderness. Midway, you’ll pass "Dripping Rock," where spring water trickles down the rocks—perfect for cooling off and washing your hands. The final kilometer involves climbing a small steep slope, leading directly to the "Viewing Platform," where you can see the sea of clouds earlier than on the Leisure Route, making it ideal for catching the sunrise.
The summit is absolutely stunning! Arriving before sunrise lets you witness clouds filling the valleys, and as the sun rises, golden rays pierce through the clouds. In the afternoon, you can relax at the viewing platform, watching the clouds drift by. At sunset, the river below glows red. On your way down, you can even pick wild fruits (make sure they’re edible!). It’s a delightful mountain adventure!
🏨Dongting Spring Hotel: A Relaxing Haven After Descending
After descending Ziyun Peak, drive 40 minutes to the hotel, enjoying countryside sunsets along the way. The hotel is located in the county center, surrounded by restaurants where you can savor hot, local Shuangfeng dishes.
The lobby’s warm lighting is incredibly soothing, and the front desk staff are proactive in helping with luggage. The rooms are clean and spacious, with soft bedding that instantly relaxes your tired, sore body after a long hike. The bathrooms feature separate wet and dry areas with ample hot water, making for a super comfortable shower. The toiletries have a light, plant-based fragrance. Some rooms come with balconies, allowing you to enjoy the evening breeze. If you don’t feel like going out, you can order takeout and enjoy a worry-free stay.
