When I visited, there were only a few scattered tourists. If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was a deserted city. It’s so peaceful and not crowded, making it a great place to visit, with a fully immersive experience.
Stepping into the Ancient County Town feels like entering a thousand years of history. With its blue bricks, dark tiles, flying eaves, and ancient archways, it’s like you’ve traveled back in time. Especially when standing on the city wall, looking down over the whole city, you can feel the deep historical presence of the past.

My Tour Route: South Gate → City Tower → County Yamen → Kuixing Tower → Confucian Temple → Dongyue Temple → Archaeological Museum → Jinniu Mansion Park → Jade Emperor Temple → Guan Di Temple → Walk around the City Wall → Enjoy the Night Views
The ancient city is quite large, and it takes about half a day to explore. Climbing the city wall costs 20 yuan, and you can either walk or bike along the top.
Basic Information: Taiyuan Ancient County Town was built in the 8th year of the Hongwu era during the Ming Dynasty (1375), making it over 600 years old. It retains the ancient architectural layout of the Jin Yang Ancient City, earning the nickname "Phoenix City." The city has four gates: East Gate ("Guanlan"), West Gate ("Wangcui"), South Gate ("Jinxian"), and North Gate ("Fengxuan").
