Mother of Georgia: Watching Over Tbilisi

The statue of Kartlis Deda, or “Mother of Georgia,” stands tall on Sololaki Hill in the heart of Tbilisi. It was built in 1958. The mother holds a wine cup in her left hand to show friendship and welcome visitors, and a sword in her right hand to show strength to enemies—a deeply symbolic representation of the Georgian national character.
It is an important landmark for those visiting Georgia. We came in early July. The weather was very hot, but the view from the top was beautiful. The sun was strong but the wind was blowing. I highly recommend it.
Note: We traveled by car up here because the local guide rented a car with a driver. If you are interested, please contact me.
