On a cliff overlooking the Kura River flowing through Tbilisi, stands the historic Metekhi Church. Built in the 13th century by King Demetre II of Georgia, this church embodies the faith and history of Georgian Orthodoxy.
The interior of the church is distinctly different from typical European churches. Sacred relics and icons are placed throughout, and visitors can witness locals praying in front of them. It is a place where one can feel the humble yet enduring faith of the Georgian people.
