Every October, Vientiane transforms from a tranquil setting into a hub of artistic inspiration. This year, “Lao Art Week 2025” will be held at Parkson Mall from October 10–19, 2025, showcasing works by over a dozen Lao artists, both emerging and established, who tell stories through paintings, sculptures, and mixed media that profoundly reflect their perspectives on life and society today.

🖌️ Atmosphere

As soon as you step into the exhibition space, the first thing you feel is the “power of art.” The open atmosphere, warm lighting reflecting off the crisp white floor, makes each work stand out as if it were alive.

The first zone, dedicated to sculpture and mixed media, immediately captures the eye with the work “Memory in a Bottle,” a bust wrapped in wire and artificial flowers, expressing memories and the fragility of life. Next up is the Value of Imperfection in Life series, which beautifully and honestly depicts human scars and imperfections.

The other zone features vibrant contemporary paintings that blend traditional Lao art with modern techniques. The image of a monk walking amidst gold and blue flames in Reflection of Faith has become a popular photo spot for viewers.

🖼️ Works that reflect the spirit

One of the highlights of this year's Lao Art Week is the opportunity for young artists to showcase bold and unique works, such as the Rural Dreamscape series, which depicts rural Lao life in a surrealistic perspective, using vibrant greens and free-flowing lines. Or, the Scars of Society series, which exposes the deep wounds in the psyche of modern people with its gray tones and powerful compositions.

Some artists also use art as a tool to reflect on the environment and social change, such as their unique Eco-Art paintings using recycled materials.
