Zhaojun Village, also known as Baoping Village, was originally a remote small village in Nan Commandery of the Western Han Dynasty. On the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month in 53 BC, the unparalleled beauty Wang Zhaojun was born into a prosperous farming family named Wang Rang in the village. Young Zhaojun lived here for sixteen years. In 36 BC, during Emperor Yuan of Han’s nationwide selection of beauties, Wang Zhaojun was chosen as the top candidate from Nan Commandery and entered the Han palace.
