Exploring the Origins of Xinhua and Staying at the Ultra-Healing Baxi Jingchen Hotel

Hey friends! 👋 This trip to Xinhua was incredibly rewarding. Not only did I uncover the origins of this ancient city's name, but I also stayed at a super cozy hotel. Here's the full guide for you!~

🌟 Xinhua: The Secret Behind the Name of a Thousand-Year-Old City

The name "Xinhua" carries a rich historical significance! In the fifth year of the Northern Song Dynasty's Xining era (1072), the imperial court sent Zhang Dun to open up the Meishan area, incorporating the former "Meishan Miao Territory" into its jurisdiction. To signify the "new acceptance of royal culture" in this land, it was named "Xinhua," symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter of civilization. Since then, Xinhua has officially appeared on the historical map, boasting nearly a thousand years of history.

Before this, the Meishan region was home to the descendants of Chiyou, known as the "Meishan Miao." They thrived here, creating a unique Meishan culture filled with vibrant and primitive customs such as hunting, rituals, and folk songs. After the "opening of Meishan," Central Plains culture began to merge with Meishan culture, gradually transforming Xinhua into a significant cultural hub in central Hunan.

Geographically, Xinhua holds a special position. Located on the southeastern slopes of the Xuefeng Mountains and along the middle reaches of the Zijiang River, it has historically been a key transportation hub. In the past, it served as a vital route connecting central Hunan to western Hunan and Guizhou. Merchant ships traveled along the Zijiang River, making the docks bustling with activity and turning Xinhua into a major distribution center for goods, fostering a rich commercial culture. Today, as you stroll through the streets of Xinhua, you can still catch glimpses of its former glory in the old buildings and ancient docks. Moreover, Xinhua is known as the "Hometown of Meishan Cultural Arts in China," with treasures like Meishan martial arts, Meishan folk songs, and the agricultural culture of the Ziquejie Terraces.

🏨 Baxi Jingchen Hotel: A Cozy Haven for Travelers

After exploring Xinhua, I was pleasantly surprised by my stay at the Baxi Jingchen Hotel! Located just a 10-minute taxi ride from Xinhua West Bus Station, the hotel is super convenient.

The lobby is simply yet warmly decorated, with soft yellow lighting that instantly puts you at ease. The front desk staff greeted me with sweet smiles, processed my check-in quickly, and even thoughtfully recommended nearby restaurants. The room was clean and spacious, with large windows that let in plenty of natural light—no need for artificial lighting during the day. The bedding was soft and cozy, with just the right amount of firmness in the mattress, melting away all the day's fatigue. The en-suite bathroom featured a separate wet and dry area, with hot water available quickly. The toiletries had a light, pleasant fragrance, making them a joy to use.
