Located in the port city of Okinado under Yanagawa Castle, Okinado Suitengu Shrine was established in 1869 (Meiji 2) by transferring the deity from Kurume Suitengu Shrine. It combines three local shrines: Inari Shrine, Mikken Shrine (Gion Shrine), and is considered part of the nationally designated scenic spot "Yanagawa Water Town."
The "Suitengu Festival," held annually from May 3rd to 5th, is a representative event of the Yanagawa area. During the festival, the "Sanjinmaru" boat stage floats on the canal, featuring traditional boat stage music said to have originated in the late Edo period. Visitors can receive "Gourd Charms," believed to bring health and protection from disasters for children. Additionally, the canal's sides are lined with small stalls, attracting many worshippers and creating a lively atmosphere.
