Western Xia Imperial Tombs (Yinchuan, Ningxia)

Just west of Yinchuan, the Western Xia Imperial Tombs comprise nine imperial mausoleums and over 200 satellite tombs dating from the 11th–13th centuries. Mirroring the grandeur of Beijing’s Ming Tombs, these mausoleums reflect Western Xia architectural aesthetics and nomadic traditions. Recent excavations revealed murals, intricately carved gates, and frontier-era artifacts. The quiet desert setting and size of the site create a solemn, historically resonant experience.
