Draw a circle around Beijing: A long-established grassland paradise opens
August in Beijing was hot and humid, and I wanted to take Xiaoxiao out to escape the heat. So, I drew a circle 300 kilometers from Beijing and chose the China Horse Town Tourist Resort (abbreviated as China Horse Town) in Datan, Chengde, Hebei. Taking Xiaoxiao, whose surname is Horse and zodiac sign is the horse, to China Horse Town for a 2-night, 3-day weekend trip was something I was really looking forward to.
3-Day, 2-Night Itinerary
During Day 1, we depart from the East Fifth Ring Road after lunch and arrive in 3 hours. Along the way, we'll enjoy the beautiful Fengning Bashang Grassland. That evening, we'll arrive at the White Horse Hotel and enjoy a meal of the Manchu Eight Bowls Rice. Since we arrived late, we checked in and went straight to bed, ready to recharge for a good time tomorrow.
Date 2: Breakfast at the White Horse Hotel at 7:00 AM. The tour began at 9:30 AM.
Dancing Horse World: Watch the horse welcoming ceremony, African impressions, and the NPC interactive area in Zhao Yun's living area...
Lunch: Enjoy pizza at the Cute Horse Family Restaurant.
Cute Pet Paradise: Watch a live performance of Zhao Zilong, chase piglets, ride famous horses...and enjoy an endless loop of activities in the children's park.
Evening: Enjoy delicious food at Tianxia Diyi Roast Lamb and watch the electronic music party fireworks show.
After the battery was depleted, I returned to the White Horse Hotel, showered, and fell asleep.
Date 3: Breakfast at the White Horse Hotel at 8:00 AM. Return at 9:00 AM, arriving home at 1:00 PM.
Transportation
It takes 3 hours to drive from the East Fifth Ring Road, a distance of 260 kilometers, and the highway toll is 55 yuan. It is recommended to drive by yourself. China Mazhen Tourism Resort is located at No. 1 Mazhen Road, Datan Village, Datan Town, Fengning County, Hebei Province, 89 kilometers away from Fengning County.
Hotel 1, White Horse Hotel
1. We booked a parent-child room with a big bed and a small bed. Xiaoxiao ran straight to her small bed after entering the room. The room was full of pony elements, which were particularly attractive, including pony cups, pony children's toothbrushes, and pony moisturizers. Each one is a favorite of the children.
2. The large mirror in the bathroom is a pleasant surprise, and an oversized beauty light makes it easy for mothers who put on makeup. 3. Looking out the window, I was greeted by a vast expanse of prairie, which brightened my mood. The hotel's beverage packs weren't coffee, but local inulin, a unique flavor. You can even buy some at the amusement park exit to take home. 4. On the first floor, there's a children's playground with a ball park and slides—a favorite for kids under 10.
Hotel 2: Shengshi Grassland Hotel Apartments
This is actually a health resort hotel in China's Mazhen. Coming here is like coming home. Many Beijingers buy property here and drive here exclusively on weekends. It is a true "migrant bird" residence. It has the quality and service of a hotel, but without the restraint, it feels more like home.
Grassland Cuisine
In China Horse Town, you can temporarily forget about dieting and try a variety of delicious foods.
1. The White Horse Hotel offers a rich and nutritious breakfast. Chinese dishes include Datan's specialty oatmeal noodles and mutton soup, while Western dishes include salads, coffee, and small desserts.
4. There are many choices for dinner. When you walk out of the exit, you will find Chinese and Western food. We chose the best roast lamb in the world. After eating it hot, we can finally go back to the hotel to recharge our batteries. 5. How can you miss mutton on the grassland? Eating meat and drinking wine on the grassland is the best way to end a weekend trip. The roasted whole lamb here is tender and melts in your mouth. Both the ingredients and the roasting temperature are very particular. If you are in China Horse Town, don't miss this feast. We recommend the "World's No. 1 Roasted Whole Lamb" restaurant in the food street.
Live Performances1. God of War Zhao Zilong
The most anticipated event in China Horse Town is the two daily live performances of "God of War Zhao Zilong," held from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM and from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The performances last half an hour, so be sure to schedule your time in advance.
Seating Tips: While the view toward the back may not be as clear as the front rows, the roof protects you from the sun for half an hour. Seats closer to the stage offer a clear view, and when the water sprays, the mist sprays directly onto your body, providing a cool sensation. However, the downside is that there's no roof, so you'll be exposed to the sun for half an hour.
The God of War, Zilong, spent half an hour performing the most exciting moments in Zilong's life, including saving Adou and fighting at Changbanpo. The whole show involved fire, water, and flying figures. Xiaoxiao was completely engrossed in the show. The shocking artillery in the middle scared the little baby a little. Many families with strollers left the show halfway through, but there were also many babies over 3 years old who were watching the show intently.
The biggest gain Xiaoxiao got from the show was that after we got home, she pestered me to find her a picture book of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and read it to her. I had shown Xiaoxiao the Three Kingdoms before, but after watching the God of War, Zhao Yun, she was obviously more interested in the story. This is definitely a gain you wouldn't get from going to other amusement parks.
2. Wa village goes up the knife mountain
At four o'clock in the afternoon, the Wa village was full of people, all of whom came to watch the Wa men go up the knife mountain. After the long-haired sister's energetic head-shaking dance, the Wa village's highlight moment arrived. Using his sharp half-meter-long sword, capable of severing strips of cloth in an instant, the young Wa man, using both hands and feet, instantly climbed to the top of the sword mountain, towering above the rooftops. With his belly resting on the sword blade, his entire body soared into the air, the audience erupted in cheers. Every job deserves respect. The young man constantly demonstrated his time-tested skills, inspiring both admiration and a touch of heartache. Xiaoxiao applauded, exclaiming, "Uncle, what a master!" After the performance, the young man would carefully sheath the sword to prevent accidental injury.
4. Other Performances
China Horse Town boasts a wealth of performances, from the horses welcoming guests at Chenggong Gate to the African impressions of the Ma Mansion. Every performer gave their all. Not satisfied with the performances, you can also take photos with the performers, transporting you to either the African savannah or ancient China.
5. Horse Museum
Once you enter China Horse Town, you must first visit the Horse Museum, which displays the history of horses, horse breeds, and horse equipment. You must not miss this place. Xiaoxiao, whose surname is Ma and whose zodiac sign is horse, was fascinated by it.
Amusement and Animals
1. It's particularly worth mentioning that all the rides in the park are free. This means that if children like, they can queue up in an endless loop to ride the space coaster, carousel, and self-controlled airplane. This is absolutely amazing for children. However, some rides require a height of at least 1.1 meters, while others require at least 1.5 meters. Before queuing, please read the instructions carefully. 2. After playing at the amusement park, catch the "Tianma Xingkong" parade. See you at Heroes Square at 18:45. 3. Horses are indispensable in China's horse town. There are more than 8,000 horses in Datan Town, and the most valuable horse in the town is the Ferghana horse, which is worth seven figures.
We also changed into professional knight vests and knight hats in the royal stables and rode these super expensive BMWs for a stroll. The beautiful girl with tassels is a gypsy horse from the UK, 8 years old this year, a female, worth 500,000 yuan;
The little white horse that just took a bath is a white Spanish pony, Andalusian breed, 13 years old this year, a neutered boy, worth 300,000 yuan;
The chestnut one is our Northeast draft horse, 25 years old this year, a female, worth 150,000 yuan. Each horse has a lifespan of 25-30 years. After a ride, I found these famous horses incredibly well-behaved and clean, with absolutely no odor at all. For children afraid of larger horses, the adjacent pony park offers a more intimate experience with these ponies. Alpacas, camels, pigs, and ducks—common animals—have been given a novel twist in China's Horse Town. 5. Pig racing is a great animal-friendly game that doesn't harm animals while still allowing children to fully engage. While driving the pigs around in circles, children experience the joy of competition and participation. Even if they don't win in the end, the fun of racing with the pigs will stay with them as they grow up.
Perfect night electronic music carnival
The electronic music carnival starts on time at 20:30 in the evening. If you want to participate in the carnival, don't go out to eat. Once the ticket goes out, you can't enter again. You can wait until the end of the climb and then leave from the exit. There are many delicious foods waiting for you.
However, if you want to attend the electronic music party specifically, you can purchase a night ticket. The party runs from 8:30 PM to 9:10 PM every Tuesday to Sunday, and you can enter the park at 5:00 PM. Before the party, you can explore the amusement park or various experience centers.
Friendly reminder: the sound is incredibly loud, so children should just watch.
Influencer Photoshoot
You can get plenty of beautiful photos in China Horse Town. In the internet-famous maze opposite the Mengma Restaurant, you can take beautiful photos; you can take photos with the characters after the show; and of course the coolest thing is to put on Hanfu and walk through the streets alone. Of course, your outfit may attract tourists to take photos, and they even mistake me for a staff member here.

Sunscreen: The sun is strong during the day, so remember to wear sunscreen and a hat, or you'll get even darker when you get home.
Umbrella: Bring an umbrella! Fengning's weather is changeable, so if it rains, don't panic. Even on sunny days, you can use an umbrella for sun protection.
Weather
China Horse Town is located near Fengning, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is quite significant. Daytime temperatures can exceed 30°C, so wearing short sleeves is recommended. However, as the sun sets, it quickly gets colder. Therefore, be sure to bring a jacket with you when you leave in the morning so you can enjoy the electronic music party in the evening.
A beautiful day will always come to an end. The meeting is in Beijing, where the mountains are high and the roads are long. Parents and drivers must pay attention to safety.
