If you were to ask me which are the most beautiful places in Liangshan, I would answer without hesitation: Yanyuan and Muli. This two-day, two-night travel guide will take you to these two wonderlands.

Day 1: Depart from Xichang to Lugu Lake

Early in the morning, we departed from downtown Xichang for Lugu Lake. The journey took approximately five hours. We stopped for lunch at the Apple Farm in Yanyuan County. I've known Yanyuan for a long time because its apples are so famous. Yanyuan's high altitude, strong sunshine, and large temperature swings between day and night result in exceptionally high-quality apples: juicy, crisp, and incredibly sweet.

After a brief rest stop at the Yanyuan Apple Farm, we continued on to Lugu Lake.

Lugu Lake, Sichuan

This is probably my sixth time to visit Lugu Lake. I've been there in spring, summer, autumn, and winter. I think summer is the most beautiful season for Lugu Lake. Every time I visit, I'm amazed by the scenery.

Because Lugu Lake is a plateau fault karst sinkhole lake, spring arrives a little later, so summer is when everything here comes to life. Walking from the Walking Marriage Bridge to the Grass Sea, the grass is lush and birds are singing, and the wind gently caresses everything. The grass in the lake sways slowly to the rhythm of the wind.

Lugu Lake, Sichuan

Driving to Goddess Bay, the waters of Lugu Lake are truly beautiful, crystal clear. Boating on the lake is a unique experience. Take your time admiring the tiny white flowers in the lake and you'll feel how magical it is.

Finally, watch a stunning sunset over Lugu Lake at Lover's Beach and you'll feel how fulfilling life can be. Colorful pig trough boats are parked on the shore, swaying with the waves. The days are long, but you will feel that time passes quickly and time is short in Lugu Lake.

Muli Grand Temple

The movie Lost Horizon, which sparked a global Shangri-La craze, was actually based on Muli.

In Locke's heart, Muli is the heart of Shangri-La.
