Yongling is the only imperial mausoleum built on the ground in China so far. It is a thousand years old and is the tomb of Wang Jian, the founding emperor of the Former Shu Dynasty during the Five Dynasties. The essence of Yongling is the underground palace. Inside, whether it is the stone statue of Wang Jian or the stone carvings of the 24 musicians and the 12 coffin-carving warriors around his coffin bed, they are all masterpieces. If you want to learn more, you can also go to the Yongling Museum on the right side of the gate to appreciate the exquisite cultural relics from the Five Dynasties period.
Yongling is the mausoleum of Wang Jian, the former Shu king, who was one of the few successful monarchs during the Five Dynasties. The buildings of Yongling are basically on the ground. Although they have been robbed, many buildings and stone carvings are still preserved, and the stone carvings are quite exquisite.
Compared with other museums in the province, Chengdu Yongling Museum is particularly small, but the cultural relics and underground tombs inside are the treasures of the Shu people. As the only above-ground imperial tomb in China, the tomb of the former Shu emperor is not in Xi'an or Luoyang, the ancient capitals of many dynasties, but in the urban area of Chengdu. It is incredible and worth a visit.
As soon as you enter, there is a long dark corridor, at the end of which is the mausoleum. The tomb is not big and you can walk through it in a short while.
Walking along the road, there is a "Twenty-Four Musical Instruments" music and culture exhibition behind.
Although it is not big, it is the only above-ground imperial mausoleum in China. You can enter the tomb chamber, which is a special feature.
I am interested in history and culture, and I usually like to go to mausoleums and museums. The special thing about this mausoleum is that it is the only above-ground imperial mausoleum in China, and now it looks like a garden. The environment is quiet, and many residents nearby stroll around, and it feels like a park.
Every time I walk through Yongling, I feel like I'm watching Tomb Robbers' Chronicles and Ghost Blowing Out the Light. For ordinary people like me, Yongling is like a quiet park, with different flowers, trees, insects and fish in different seasons. When you look up, you can see the mottled light, and when you close your eyes, you can listen to the chirping of birds. In summer, you can hide in the museum to see history, and in winter, you can go to the tea garden to bask in the sun, drink tea and take a nap. The restored Yongling is open to welcome guests, and the stone door that enclosed the underground palace has been replaced with a Chinese red classical door, showing the momentum of the underground palace. Next to the flower bed next to the underground palace, there is an ancient bell, which is also an important antique.
Look at Chengdu, a city with a glorious history.
Look, the ancient King of Shu, the handsome Wang Jian.
Yongling Museum includes a series of cultural relics around Yongling. Yongling, which has been called Fuqin Terrace for many years, has a semicircular earthen mound with a diameter of 80m and a height of 15m. The tomb chamber is built under the mausoleum platform, with fourteen stone arches as its framework, forming a three-entry tomb chamber with a total length of 30.8m. The ground elevation of the tomb chamber is similar to the outdoor ground, thus forming the only ground-based imperial mausoleum in China. It shows its unique local characteristics. Although the appearance of the mausoleum in the old days is no longer traceable, it can be inferred from the fact that Wang Jian dominated the area of the Land of Abundance at that time and the state affairs were stable for many years that the scale of the mausoleum construction may be quite considerable. According to the [Song Dynasty] records, there are more than 500 murals in the ground palace of Yongling, which can also be inferred that its architecture is quite grand and magnificent. Tall stone statues of civil officials were also found near the mausoleum, and their height is comparable to the stone statues of Qianling Mausoleum where Emperor Gaozong of Tang and Wu Zetian were buried together. It turns out that there were also stone sculptures such as stone men and stone animals in front of Yongling.
If you want to see the underground palace, you have to pay for the ticket. Actually, there is nothing inside. However, Wang Jian's tomb is a rare above-ground mausoleum in China, so archaeology and history enthusiasts can take a look. The Yongling Museum behind is free. If you only want to go to the museum, you don't have to pay for the ticket.
The wall on the side of the museum, but the area behind the wall is mainly a parking lot; the stone statues outside the museum and some parks inside the museum for locals to walk and sit in the morning. Because we were just passing by and browsing, we walked around in the park and did not visit the specific matters of the museum! There are many elderly people in the park, and it is really leisurely! Many citizens living around will come to the park for a walk. During the period, we also met some Tibetan people and foreign friends! We didn't go in at the paid entrance!
Wang Jian's Tomb is the burial place of Wang Jian, the founding emperor of the Former Shu Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in Chinese history. It is not only the only emperor's tomb in my country that is known to have a tomb chamber built above the ground, but also the first imperial tomb excavated by modern archaeological methods in the domestic archaeological community. There are 24 musicians carved on the east, west and south stone walls of the coffin bed, playing instruments such as pipa, zither, drum, sheng, cymbals, and konghou. The "Twelve Gods" on both sides of the coffin bed are both exquisite and lifelike; the stone statue of Wang Jian is vivid and lifelike, and can be called a masterpiece of stone carving art in the late Tang and Five Dynasties period in China. It is the only emperor statue unearthed in a Chinese imperial tomb.
Yongling is composed of three parts: the cultural relics protection area, the comprehensive museum, and the garden protection area. The cultural relics area is a paid attraction with several pairs of stone statues and a small dark tomb.
A municipal museum that mainly introduces the two dynasties of Former Shu and Later Shu.
It is the only imperial mausoleum built on the ground that has been discovered in China so far! Please remember that there is no other! If you have enough time to visit Chengdu, it is recommended to visit it to learn more about the past of Chengdu.
Behind the underground palace is the Yongling Museum, where the underground floor displays cultural relics unearthed from the Yongling Mausoleum.
On the day I went there, the first floor of the museum was displaying silk fabrics borrowed from the Taizhou Museum. They were clothes from the Ming Dynasty, and the Hanfu ladies were quite interested in them.
The hair accessories here are not as exquisite as those in Jiangxi Provincial Museum. After all, the royal family is not comparable to ordinary people.
The museum has a young man from Sichuan Tourism College who gives free explanations, but students still need to hone their explanation skills.
There is a replica of Wang Jian’s stone statue here. The one in the underground palace cannot clearly show Wang Jian’s face, but this one is clearer and he does have an extraordinary appearance.
In fact, the Yongling Museum and the Yongling Underground Palace are two places. The Yongling Museum is usually open to the public for free, while the Yongling Underground Palace costs 20 yuan per person. If it is not a museum day, I don’t think it is necessary to spend this money. It is enough to go to the Yongling Museum next door!
The most special thing about the underground palace is that it is not buried deep underground, which is very different from other imperial tombs. When I asked the tour guides, they couldn't explain it clearly, and the written materials did not explain why.
The Yongling Underground Palace was completed very quickly, and many of the cultural relics inside are stored in the Yongling Museum, so there is actually no need to spend money to visit the underground palace.
The place is not big and it can probably be visited in about ten minutes, so you can take a look if you have time.
Yongling Museum is the mausoleum of Wang Jian, the emperor of Former Shu during the Five Dynasties. It is only about 800 meters away from the hotel where I stayed. I just crossed the road and arrived there. At first I didn’t realize that I had arrived so soon. Museums are like that, with many exhibits on display, but you can see them but not touch them^_^. If you are interested in history, you can go and have a look.
Today I went to Kuanzhai Alley, Wuhou Temple and Qingyang Palace
Wenshu Temple Yongling.
The best of all is the Yongling Museum! Highly recommended, the staff are very kind and considerate of you, you need to rent a guide.
Excellent location, located in the city, worth a visit
This is a relatively unpopular attraction. During the Chinese New Year, we were afraid of being crowded in other places, but it was suddenly very quiet here. The surrounding parks are full of birdsong and flowers, which is very suitable for leisure. The museum content could be richer. Also, the ticket is 20 yuan, but many museums can be free with ID cards. I don’t agree with this. Of course, it’s okay to charge a maintenance fee appropriately. In short, there are few people, and it would be best if there were discounts such as e-tickets.
We went there early, so the guard suggested that we go to the park next to it. We found a tree full of crabapple flowers, which was so beautiful that it made us intoxicated. Bonsais were being exhibited inside the Yongling Museum. It seemed as if we had entered the scenery of Suzhou gardens. The bonsais that had been carefully cultivated for many years had different styles, showing the care of the collectors. We admired the blooming flowers, the vigorous pines and cypresses, the graceful camellias... some were collected by the museum, some were collected by Du Fu Thatched Cottage, and a few were contributed by Mr. He personally. We guessed that Mr. He must be gray-haired and energetic.
Yongling Museum is very small. It takes a while to walk to the statue of Wang Jian from the main entrance. There is a Sichuan bonsai exhibition on the right. There is another museum after passing the Ping'an Bridge at the back door. There is an exhibition of the former and latter Shu dynasties. You can spend half a day there. Overall, it is good.
The ticket cost ¥20, and there was only one above-ground tomb when we entered. Fortunately, we asked for the toilet, otherwise we didn't know that there was a museum outside the back door - Ping'an Bridge. It was not a waste of the ticket.
When I went there, the museum was still under construction, so I only visited the underground palace. I personally think it is not as good as the underground palace of the Shu King's Mausoleum.
There were almost no tourists. I was the only one entering the mausoleum. It was eerie and I walked around quickly and came out... How could I have been so brave at that time? I am scared when I think about it now
Yongling is the only underground imperial mausoleum known in China. The park is not big, and the ticket price is 20 yuan, including the Yongling Underground Palace and the Shu History Museum. Yongling belongs to Wang Jian, the founding emperor of the Former Shu Dynasty. Although Yongling is small, it includes all the elements needed in the construction of the imperial mausoleum. After entering the door, there are four pairs of stone statues on the front, and you can learn about the history of the construction and excavation of the mausoleum on the left. Going in from the front is the underground palace, and the high archway immediately makes people feel solemn. The underground palace retains the necessary facilities of the royal mausoleum, such as the coffin bed, jade seat, and ever-bright lamp. The museum mainly introduces Wang Jian's life and the unknown history of the Former Shu Dynasty. It is a good choice for students interested in archaeological history. The outer periphery is Yongling Park, which is a place for Chengdu people to relax and have fun. The transportation is very convenient, and the Yongling bus stop is right next to the gate. The ticket office is on the left side of the entrance, which is not easy to find.
When you step into the underground palace of Yongling, you can see the newly completed project adding modern lighting to the underground palace, which allows you to appreciate the mysterious and profound millennium cultural context. In the small underground palace space, there is a deep and long sense of history, which is impressive to the audience. In addition, the surrounding of the stone bed of the underground palace and the connecting section of the corridor are all made of glass to create a protective layer, which doubles the sense of display and refinement. These are all projects completed during this closure and maintenance, and they are actually unrelated to the mausoleum itself.
Wang Jian's tomb was once robbed, but the mausoleum architecture and exquisite stone carvings that the tomb robbers could not steal can still be regarded as the flower of mausoleum palace art. The tomb is built with 14 double stone vaults, divided into three chambers: front, middle and back, with a total length of more than 20 meters. Wang Jian's coffin is placed in the middle chamber. The east, south and west sides of the coffin bed are engraved with patterns. The twelve strong men in the pattern are holding up the coffin seat. The shapes are peculiar and no two are the same. The 24 reliefs of dancers on the east, south and west sides of the coffin seat are dancing in different postures, which are rare art treasures of the Tang Dynasty.
Wang Jian's tomb chamber consists of 14 stone vaults, divided into three chambers: front, middle and back, separated by wooden doors. Wang Jian's coffin was placed on the coffin bed in the middle chamber. On the east, west and south stone walls of the coffin bed, there are 24 musicians, playing instruments such as pipa, zither, drum, sheng, cymbals and konghou. The figures are beautifully shaped and lifelike. This is the only complete image of the court band of the Tang Dynasty excavated in the country. It is of great value for studying the establishment, music history and musical instrument history of the court band in the Tang and Five Dynasties. A stone statue of Wang Jian sitting is placed on the imperial bed in the back chamber. The statue wears a futou, imperial clothes, a jade belt around the waist and looks peaceful. Although Wang Jian's tomb was robbed, jade belts, mourning books, posthumous books, posthumous seals, various silver wares, iron pigs and iron cows were still unearthed in the tomb chamber. These cultural relics provide valuable physical materials for studying the architecture, music, dance, clothing and court rituals of the Tang and Five Dynasties.
Yongling is located at Sandong Bridge on the west extension line of Yangshi Street in Chengdu. It is the mausoleum of Wang Jian, the founding emperor of the Former Shu Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It is commonly known as Wang Jian's Tomb. It is also the only imperial mausoleum known in my country that is built above ground and the first to be officially excavated. It is the mausoleum of Wang Jian, the emperor of the Former Shu Kingdom during the Five Dynasties, and is called "Yongling" in history books. Yongling has only an underground palace, and the stone support of the coffin is missing. Even the horse in Yongling has a sad expression. What a pit!
The tomb of Wang Jian, the founding emperor of the Former Shu Kingdom, is the only mausoleum in the country with an underground palace built above the ground. It is located in the center of Chengdu, not far from Kuanzhai Alley and other places. However, there are not many people here, so it is relatively quiet. There are very exquisite reliefs of music girls and statues of strong men carrying the coffin around the coffin bed. There is also a seated statue of Wang Jian behind the coffin bed, which is the first time I have seen it.
What can I say about this attraction? I can only say that I was unlucky. It was under maintenance, so I could only wander outside the museum and leave unwillingly. Maybe next time. Next time I come to Chengdu, I must come here to visit.
Yongling outside the west gate was formerly called "Wang Jian's Tomb". It was once barren and overgrown with weeds, but now it has been renovated and is open to visitors to learn about the splendor of the former Shu Dynasty. As a citizen of Bashu, you must visit it.
Yongling is called Wang Jian's Tomb by Chengdu locals. Take bus No. 30 to Yongling East Road, and cross the street after getting off. The ticket to Yongling is 20 yuan. This is the tomb of Wang Jian, the emperor of the former Shu Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It is said to be the only tomb of an ancient Chinese emperor known to date that has an underground palace built on the ground. Yongling is mainly an underground palace, which is very small. Inside the underground palace are coffin beds, white marble bottom bricks, and reliefs of music and dance around it. Behind it is a stone sculpture of the tomb owner Wang Jian. To be honest, there is really nothing to see in Yongling. There are very few exhibits in an underground palace. You can see them all by looking at the door. Besides, the emperors of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms were not particularly famous figures, and it is estimated that not many people know about them. Don't forget to visit the Yongling Museum on the right side of the gate. There are many exquisite cultural relics collected here, which are enough for you to look at for a while.
When I went there, the environment was nice... but the main part was under maintenance! It was not open! In mid-August 2015. And there was no opening time. It is a museum that you can temporarily not visit.
The main building in the Yongling Museum is the tomb of Wang Jian, the emperor of Former Shu during the Five Dynasties. Surrounding the tomb is a museum, which mainly exhibits cultural relics unearthed from the tomb. There are also bamboo forests, lakes and some pavilions, and the scenery is very nice.
Yongling is a very unique mausoleum. Unlike other imperial mausoleums, which are buried deep underground, it is located above ground, like a house. There are also 24 singers, dancers and women playing musical instruments on the coffin bed. I looked at it carefully and it was really exquisite. Finally, there is a stone statue of Wang Jian in the tomb, which is quite rare. Later generations can directly see the appearance of such an emperor.
The ticket is 10 RMB per ticket. There is nothing to see inside and taking photos is not allowed. It feels eerie walking inside. It is not recommended.
It's just opposite the Dengba Youth Hostel. The student ticket is 10 yuan. It's only open a little bit inside. There's not much to see. I don't recommend going in.
Only the underground palace of Yongling is charged for visiting, and other places are free, so I went in to visit. Yongling Museum is the mausoleum of Wang Jian, the founding emperor of the Former Shu Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, commonly known as Wang Jian's Tomb. Located on Fuqin East Road, a prosperous street in the central district of Chengdu, it is also the only known imperial mausoleum in my country built on the ground and the first officially excavated.
It is close to the famous Kuanzhai Alley, not very large in size but with a nice environment. The underground palace is charged extra.
When the King of Shu built his own mausoleum, he didn't even reach his "final resting place". It turned out to be a leisure place for citizens. It is not recommended to go in. You can just take a quick look at the mausoleum area.
The nearest attraction to the hotel, I decided to go and have a look. There is a park around Yongling, and many citizens take a walk here.
The Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall is free and can be visited by swiping your ID card. You can get a direct understanding of the culture of the Former Shu Dynasty. The introduction to Yongling is very detailed, and the text, tomb model and 3D animation are intuitive and easy to understand.
The ticket to visit the mausoleum is 20 yuan. Yongling is well preserved and is a very rare ground mausoleum, well worth a visit.
