It's very realistic and you can feel the life in the past. Every memory is so profound. If you are not from Sichuan, you may not understand what the rolling lantern means. I am from Sichuan, so I know it's about the famous henpecked man in Chengdu, where the wife teaches her husband a lesson for fooling around. The shadow play is also very nice. Other people's hands are called hands, and mine are called claws, hahahaha, it's so flexible. I can make two animals with two hands, which is amazing. The face changing is also very nice. I was also surprised by the color changing of clothes. I saw a young master changing his face too early, hahahaha, it's a bug. Overall it's very nice. There are also tea to drink and melon seeds to eat.

There are many places in Chengdu where you can watch Sichuan opera performances. There are Shufeng Yayun on Qintai Road and Furong Guocui at Jinjiang Theater. There are also a few small ones in Kuanzhai Alley and Jinli. But if you want to talk about authentic ones, Shufeng Yayun and Furong Guocui are the best.

Shufeng Yayun was once a century-old opera theater with ups and downs. It is located in the ancient building complex of Qingyang Palace on Qintai Ancient Path. The simple architectural style has the honest and leisurely spirit of Western Shu.

The performance is held every day, starting at 19:30. The one and a half hour show includes excerpts, shadow plays, puppet shows, rolling lanterns, face-changing and fire-breathing performances, etc. It is quite exciting and worth seeing.

Tips:

1. If you don’t care where you sit, you can buy tickets on site;

2. To buy tickets on Damai.com, you need to make an appointment one day in advance, and a 30% handling fee will be added for refunds (a lesson learned the hard way);

3. The theater is not very big. If you have good eyesight, it is a good idea to buy the cheapest ticket and sit in the last row. There is also tea and you can stand up and take pictures.

4. The one-hour performance is very detailed. For detailed information, please refer to its official website: ***

When you come to Chengdu, you must watch the Sichuan Opera face-changing performance. It is really amazing. Book tickets online in advance and choose seats. You can exchange tickets at the ticket exchange point on Qintai Road. The nearly two-hour performance is very exciting, with unique skills and funny moments. The old artists are very hard-working. It is really amazing for tourists. The theater staff will refill the tea cups from time to time. The service is very thoughtful. It is also nice to walk around Qintai Road after watching the performance in the evening.

I booked VIP for 200 per person, 7 days in advance. The seat was very good, table 6. There are only 5 seats at a table. If there are 6 people traveling, you need to think about how to allocate them.

There were exactly 5 of us at one table, with free tea and melon seeds. Snacks need to be ordered separately. Shufeng Yayun is a stage set up in a park. It is not open-air, so you will be bitten by mosquitoes. There is free floral water and cattail leaf fan.

It starts at 8 o'clock. You can arrive half an hour in advance. VIPs can experience wearing costumes + cleaning ears + stage makeup + back massage for free (choose one of the four options).

The show doesn't allow photography, so I didn't do it. He will change his face in front of you~ 50 meters away from you, if you have the same good seat as me

In order to watch it up close, I bought a VIP ticket. The show starts at 8 o'clock and admission is at 7 o'clock.

The performance was in the Cultural Park on Qintai Road. Before the performance, I chose a massage, while my daughter and husband chose the shadow play experience. We were tired from hiking the day before, so we just wanted to relax.

Because it was the off-season, the place was not full and there was a group of Japanese people there with large cameras filming non-stop.

We drank tea from a covered bowl while watching the show. It was so nice. The show was wonderful. The last rolling lantern and face-changing were the finale.

The magical changing of clothes was definitely not due to the lighting. The flag was waved and all the clothes were the same color. It was so fast that I didn't have time to take a photo. The face changed right in front of us. It was so magical and exciting!

The evening arrangement was to "listen to opera". Before the performance, the theater gave us an ear cleaning experience, which was just three minutes long. Although it was a cursory experience, it still fulfilled my wish of ear cleaning in Chengdu. Drinking a cup of gaiwan tea and watching a Sichuan opera performance, this may be the most comfortable leisure experience in Chengdu that I have ever felt!

Opening performance, an ensemble of various national musical instruments.

Listening to an opera was the last activity of the day. The show ended at about 10 o'clock in the evening. Today was a very energetic day.

It is called a cultural package because the "program" is rich and colorful. When we walked into the theater, the waiter in traditional Sichuan costume led us to our seats. There was a round table with five or six bamboo chairs. There were tea bowls and melon seeds on the table. The waiter asked, "The theater will give us four snacks for free. Which one would you like?" It turned out that before the performance, a Sichuan snack was given for free. We could choose one of the four: Lai Tangyuan, Long Chaoshou, Dandan Noodles, and Zhong Dumplings, all of which are classic Chengdu snacks. So we ordered Lai Tangyuan. It was served soon. It tasted good, but it was not much different from the Tangyuan in Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

The show included folk music, puppet shows, short plays, lantern rolls, and of course, face-changing and fire-breathing. The most impressive part was the vivid hand-shadow show and the lantern rolls, which were both funny and comparable to acrobatics. The closing show, face-changing and fire-breathing, was also applauded by the whole audience. I was enjoying the show when a copper sword suddenly stabbed at me from the side, scaring me into a cold sweat. When I looked closely, I found that it was a copper teapot with a spout of about one meter long. The waiter was refilling the tea bowl from a distance, which was a bit of an old theater feature. I took some time to look around. The theater with hundreds of people was full, and the corridors on both sides were also very lively. It turned out that there was a row of masters standing there, providing ear cleaning and massage services. People kept walking over to receive the service. Those who received the ear cleaning service had ferocious faces under the lights, and seemed to enjoy it very much. And there were actually quite a few foreigners who received the massage service. The show lasted for less than two hours. The theater also provides a service to send audiences back to the hotel. Along the way, I reminisced about the taste of this cultural package and felt that although the ticket price was not cheap (150 yuan), it was still worth it.

This theater has the flavor of old Chengdu, with a courtyard environment. When watching the show, five people sit at a table on bamboo chairs and drink tea while watching the show. Gaiwan tea is provided, and each person gets a cup. The fire-breathing and face-changing show is really exciting. The theater also offers some Chengdu specialty snacks, which can be eaten before or after the show. The taste is authentic and the portions are really large. In addition to the wonderful Sichuan opera performances, another highlight here is the costume experience, where you can wear costumes, put on makeup, and take beautiful photos of the show. Many people come here to experience the costumes in the afternoon, which is very lively.

Shu Feng Ya Yun is very well-known, but the price is high, and we had other arrangements (explained below) so we did not contribute.

The Shufeng Yayun show at 8 o'clock tonight feels very good. The venue is uniquely decorated, the programs are of high quality, and the actors are very professional. It is much better than what I have seen before. After all, it is an old theater and very representative. What I can't figure out is how they transform, turning around and changing clothes, which is much more difficult than changing faces.

By Chen Zi |

Because it is a unique skill, very unique, I think it is worth it. We were impressed by the shadow play, the hands were soft and dexterous, the images were vivid, with music, a little plot, and constant changes, it was magical. There are two special performances of shadow play in the afternoon, friends who want to watch shadow play should pay attention.

By valley |

Check in all over the city during the day, and choose to watch performances at night. You can take VIP seats and drink tea while watching the show. The face-changing ceiling lights are not to be missed.

By The third day of August |

You can see authentic Sichuan Opera face-changing at Shufeng Yayun. Tickets are divided into Class A, Class B, and Class C, with prices of 140, 150, and 160 yuan respectively. Drinking tea while watching the show will allow you to experience the leisurely and comfortable life of the people of Chengdu. Friends who are interested in Sichuan Opera face-changing and acrobatic rolling lanterns are recommended to go to Shufeng Yayun to watch the performance. The opening hours are 10:00-22:00.

By Mom |

The performance was wonderful, with opera, acrobatics, shadow play, puppet show, face changing, fire breathing and other programs, and snacks were also given. It can be said that the ticket price is very worthwhile, recommended!

I booked two VIP tickets on China-TravelNote for a total of 400 yuan. The ticket price included an opportunity to try on costumes, and one of three activities: dolls, ancient back-beating, and ear-cleaning. We arrived at the park at around 17:00, picked up the tickets by ourselves on the opposite side of the park, and then lined up at the theater entrance. The staff said that we had VIP tickets and could enter in advance. After entering the theater, we asked the staff to issue tickets to clean our ears, which was also the thing I had been looking forward to most in the past two days. When I heard the silver ear-washing utensils rubbing against my ears like running water, I felt that all the pores in my body were opened, constantly interpreting the word comfortable to me! After cleaning my ears, the master pressed my cervical vertebra twice, saying that my cervical vertebra was a little stiff. Although I also knew that this was a sales trick, the master's technique was skillful. After pressing me twice, I felt my whole body relax. I decisively asked the waiter to write two more orders for a full set of back-beating. After completing the whole set, we went to the backstage makeup room of the theater and experienced the fun of wearing costumes. I took pictures in various clumsy poses in front of the old actors. The teachers looked at me and smiled without saying a word. They came over to help me adjust how to place my hands, how to twist my waist, and how to lift my legs. I instantly felt that I had moved up a level.

The performance was divided into many programs: traditional Sichuan opera - Mu Guiying's teacher, hand shadow play, puppet show, rolling lantern, Sichuan opera face changing, erhu and suona performances, etc. Each program made people stare and applaud.

By king |

The program is rich in content. It is a place where classic Sichuan opera is passed down. The supporting facilities are also very thoughtful. There are snacks, dinner, cattail leaf fans and floral water. It is worth a visit.

By Mumu |

When I came here, I actually saw a group of foreigners watching. I give a thumbs up to their taste.

There are probably two famous places to watch Sichuan Opera face-changing in Chengdu, Shufeng Yayun and Furong Guocui. Shufeng Yayun is more market-oriented, while Furong Guocui is more official. Personally, I think it's okay to go to either one, the most important thing is to experience it.

By Ye Yuxuan |

The elegant Sichuan style is at Qintai Ancient Path. It starts at 8pm and the performance lasts about 2 hours. Tickets can be booked online.

Audiences can go backstage to watch the actors putting on makeup.

The Yang Family Generals opens. Drinking a big bowl of tea while listening to Peking Opera is so enjoyable!

The actors will also run to the auditorium to interact with the audience.

By Yao Ming |

The whole theater is antique, and there are many foreigners who come to watch Sichuan Opera. Among the several programs, the most special and exciting ones are the rolling lanterns and face changing! I also watched the face changing up close, it was really amazing. A face suddenly changed in less than a second right in front of my eyes! It's still worth watching!

By dream Catcher |

Online ticket purchases can be exchanged through the self-service system here, and then go to the Liyuan in the opposite park to watch the performance. Note that in the peak season, you must book online 2 days in advance, otherwise there will be no tickets or no good seats.

When you come to Chengdu to experience the Bashu culture, you must not miss the Sichuan Opera performance. We bought Class A tickets, and the children also bought Class A tickets. There are no student discount tickets.

The first time I drank tea from a covered bowl, I remembered the scene of Lin Daiyu drinking tea in Jia's mansion, so I picked up the covered bowl, gently brushed off the floating tea leaves with the tea cover, took a sip of the tea, then covered the tea cover and put it on the table. Without long sleeves to cover my face, I was elegant this time. Next time, I will just pick it up and drink it. That kind of elegant etiquette is too tiring. It's better to be down-to-earth! However, this tea is good, it seems to be Bitan Piaoxue.

The staff in charge of tea in the theater shuttled back and forth, adding water in a timely manner, and the service was really good. There was also a senior waiter who was probably holding a large teapot with a long spout to add water, which could not be done without certain experience and skills.

It turns out that Sichuan Opera is worth watching, it is so wonderful! The final face-changing is the highlight, the climax, and the applause is thunderous!

The 1 hour and 20 minutes performance included face-changing, shadow puppetry, fire-breathing, rolling lanterns, suona and other Sichuan opera highlights, which made us deeply feel the charm of Sichuan opera and feel lucky that our trip was worthwhile. I guess those blond-haired and blue-eyed foreigners were also shocked, right?

The purpose of coming to Chengdu is to experience the unique folk culture. After comparison, I chose Shufeng Yayun to watch an authentic performance. Qintai Road, located near Kuanzhai Alley, is the famous Qintai Ancient Path. The performance venue is 50 meters away from the Cultural Park. The seats are divided into 5 price levels according to VIP, A, B, C, and D. Book tickets online in advance and communicate with customer service to arrange the middle seat of A ticket as much as possible. Go to the opposite side of the park to exchange for the 8 pm performance in advance. I personally feel that the 1.5-hour performance is very exciting, especially the rolling lights and face-changing actors in the back interacting with the audience below the stage, which is full of laughter. There are also many foreign friends on the scene.

By Guo Yin |

Ticket collection and performance at Shufeng Yayun are two different places. Ticket collection is opposite the Cultural Park, and the performance is in the Cultural Park. When I went to collect the ticket, there were not many seats left, but because I was alone, I still had a single seat. If you are traveling with a friend, you must go to collect the ticket early, otherwise it will be a wasted trip. When buying tickets, you must check whether you can get a refund. In case you don’t have a ticket, you can still get a refund.

There are packages for watching the show online, such as a bowl of tea and a snack, or traditional ear cleaning, ancient back tapping, puppet experience, and a set of designated costumes. The costumes are put on at the ticket pick-up place. It is recommended to experience other projects as soon as you enter the venue, when there are the least people.

I arrived at 2:30 pm and experienced wearing costumes, but if you want to put on makeup at the same time, you have to pay extra. That's what I did. I spent money to take a set of artistic photos, which cost another 500 yuan. Traditional ear cleaning is ear cleaning, which is a special project in Chengdu and Chongqing. Many ancient towns have ear cleaning. I was afraid of spreading mold, so I didn't experience it. I experienced back tapping. In fact, not only did they tap my back, they also massaged my legs, which was quite comfortable.

The seats are divided into VIP, A, B and C tickets. In fact, the difference of a few dozen yuan is better, and it is more worthwhile to have a better seat and see more clearly. Sichuan opera is a traditional opera that combines five vocal arts, Gaoqiang, Kunqu, Huqin, Bangzi and Sichuan folk lantern opera. Among them, the world-famous face-changing. Sitting closer can see more clearly, but the actors will also walk into the audience to perform so that the audience sitting far away can also see.

There was a very exciting performance in which the performer held a 10-pound puppet and controlled the puppet through two joysticks to complete various difficult movements, such as spinning a handkerchief and picking flowers.

By James Bond |

We arrived at Shufeng Yayun an hour early to get the tickets. Shufeng Yayun is located on Qintai Road. The Qintai Ancient Path tells the story of Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun. On both sides are magnificent and luxurious antique buildings.

While waiting for the show, we chose to drink tea in the teahouse next to the Cultural Park. The actual venue for the show was in the Cultural Park.

The content is wonderful, including face changing and fire breathing. I won’t list them all here. It’s better to watch it live for yourself!

We watched the early show, which started at 18:00 and ended at 20:00.

By sandy_smile |

I bought a VIP ticket, right in the middle of the first row, so I could get up close to the actors. The viewing experience was great, but it was a pity that my neck hurt. There were not only face-changing performances, but also shadow puppets, puppets, local operas, etc. After the show, you can also choose to experience back massage, shadow puppets, and shadow puppets. Drink tea and watch the show. There is a park next to the theater, so you can take a walk after the show. It's very local.

It is a good choice to come to Shufeng Yayun Theater to listen to Sichuan Opera.

Ticket: 200 yuan/person/ticket Free gift: Gaiwan tea + drama makeup experience + ear cleaning (massage, ear cleaning, puppet show 3 choices 1)

I chose the red area when ordering on China-TravelNote~ (ticket exchange is outside the Cultural Park, and the theater is inside the Cultural Park)

Address: Shufeng Yayun Folk Teahouse at the entrance of Chengdu Cultural Park, No. 132 Qintai Road, Qingyang District, Chengdu

Transportation: Shared bicycles (10 minutes from Kuanzhai Alley)

What I was most looking forward to was the face-changing~~ I was not disappointed, it was very exciting (I recommend you to experience it)

The ticket includes a stage makeup experience, so I decided to give it a try

However, it costs an additional 200 yuan to put on stage makeup and take photos in costume. I haven’t experienced this before, but it’s okay to give it a try!

By to the mother |

Shufeng Yayun is not far from Kuanzhai Alley, and it didn’t take us long to walk there.

We booked the Class A tickets online, thinking we could just go and pick them up early. But when we got there, they said all the Class A tickets were sold out, but there were 7 Class B tickets left, but they were separate. Since we were already there, we had no choice but to change...

Seat B probably has a better position, but the remaining 7 seats are basically on both sides of the stage, although most of the performance can still be seen.

There is floral water and large fans on both sides for everyone to use.

The guy inside is so humorous. He saw me slapping mosquitoes and told me not to touch them because they were his dinner.

I have to say that traditional art performances are still very exciting. I hope everyone can go and have a look when they come. After all, the more people see it, the greater the possibility that it will not be lost.

By Mr. K and classmate L |

Special reminder to everyone to buy tickets early, otherwise you can only get a seat on the side

For example, if we buy tickets five hours in advance, the good seats are gone, but although we are on the edge

It didn't particularly affect our vision, and we recorded a lot of videos.

The final face change is quite thrilling

The entire theater is controlled by the host, who announces the show in both Chinese and English. There is also an LED screen on the side that displays the lyrics of the opera.

By Muzi likes to take a walk |

The performances include Mu Guiying taking command, erhu performance, suona performance, puppet show, shadow play, Sichuan opera sketches such as rolling lanterns and face changing, which are worth seeing.

By A piece of fat beef |

I booked the ticket on China-TravelNote one day in advance, the B class ticket was 120 yuan, and the seat arranged was in the middle. I originally booked VIP, but later the customer service informed me that it was sold out, so I changed it to B class. I recommend that if you want to experience the Sichuan Opera performance up close, you should buy VIP, as it is more shocking when you are close!

The finale was the face-changing and fire-breathing show. I forgot to take photos, so go and experience it live!!! There are only two fire-breathing performances, so watch carefully, or it will be gone if you are not careful. Try to sit in the front row, as the face-changing performers will come off the stage to interact with you, and they can change their faces in front of you.

By Chew |

Of course you have to watch face-changing when you come to Chengdu. There are many places for Sichuan opera on the Internet, but the most famous one is Shufeng Yayun. We booked a package ticket with Wuhou Temple. Although many of them are mainly in Chengdu dialect, many of them are hard to understand. But the plot is very exciting. There are Sichuan operas with Three Kingdoms allusions, hand-shaped performance art, etc. If you are interested, you can go and have a look. When we went there, most of the seats were full, and there was a group of foreigners sitting next to me.

By im tia |

After everyone sat down in the theater, they quickly got into their roles, eating melon seeds, drinking gaiwan tea, fanning themselves with large cattail leaves, and having ear cleaning and massage. It felt like the whole person was relaxed by the atmosphere, and the flavor of old Chengdu came out all at once.

It is said that taking photos was not allowed before, and recording is not allowed now, but I didn't have time because I wanted to appreciate it. I was so focused the whole time that I forgot to take photos. I just watched it. Anyway, it was very interesting. If you don't have any special plans in the evening, I recommend you to take a look. A ticket of more than 100 yuan is enough to experience the Shu culture. Although I, as an outsider, just watched the excitement, it was also very interesting.

By Clark Chen |

The performance of Shu Feng Ya Yun was really good. The first performance was an excerpt from "Mu Guiying Takes Command". The actors dressed in gorgeous clothes immediately amazed me. I didn't expect that the live show was really different from the TV show, and it was also different from the performances of going to the countryside. The clothes really added a lot of color, and the strong momentum came to my face, giving me goose bumps. The final fire breathing and face changing were even more wonderful. When leaving the stage, I heard the foreigners next to me praising it continuously, saying something like "wonderful, incredible, brilliant, never seen", "Okay, you win."

By Raging milk girl |

For watching plays and drinking tea, I strongly recommend Shufeng Yayun Theater, which is more authentic and distinctive in the local area, and the troupe is composed of veteran actors with rich performance experience. Later, I saw program previews in many teahouses. Although some of them performed the same plays as Shufeng Yayun, the actors' skills are really incomparable. The actors of Shufeng Yayun are much more interesting~

The whole performance lasts about an hour and a half, and includes traditional acrobatics, fire breathing, shadow play, classic Sichuan opera excerpts, shadow puppetry, face-changing and costume shows, etc. It feels like we haven’t seen enough!

By Watcher |

The theater is very popular. Although the theater is a bit old, it does not affect the effect and the show is also very exciting. You can visit the backstage before the show starts. If you are interested, you can pay to put on makeup and take a Sichuan Opera makeup photo. The theater is in the Cultural Park next to Qingyang Palace.

Can you guys help me to take the lead? I and this actress got separated at the 8 o'clock show on 25/4/2018 😭 Please let her see it!

We ordered the Sichuan Opera at 6 o'clock - Shufeng Yayun online a few days in advance, because there was a larger Sichuan Opera on holidays, I forgot what it was, the tickets we watched were 150 yuan Class A tickets, different seat positions have different prices, but the seats are the same. The earlier you buy the tickets, the closer you get to the front. You can only see the seats when you go to get the tickets. There is no online seat selection. When you go in, there are tea and melon seeds. Because we went early, we can go to the makeup room first and watch the makeup artist put on makeup. We also saw guests putting on makeup. Those who bought 200 yuan VIP tickets can get free makeup, but the headwear still needs to be paid.

Remember! There is a free snack to order, which is not written on the ticket. Because we were a little hungry, we wanted to order something to eat. The lady behind us said that our ticket has free food (wonton, noodles...). We are A-level tickets. I heard that VIP tickets can also clean ears for free. I don’t know if it’s true. If you buy VIP tickets, you can ask if there are any free services. The highlight moment is face changing and fire breathing. It is also the last show.

After watching the show, you can exchange for commemorative tickets. Ticket collectors can go to the souvenir shop on the right hand side of the exit and tell them that you want to exchange for commemorative tickets.

If you are still not satisfied after watching, you can take some photos of the clothes. You can’t help but sigh at the awesomeness of Chinese culture.

There are VIP, A, B, and C tickets.

You can make reservations online. It is best to make reservations in advance so that the seats can be arranged in a closer position according to the reservation.

Ticket A includes the entrance fee. It also includes a choice of Long Chao Shou, Dan Dan Noodles, Zhong Dumplings, and a theater experience. If I had known there was food, I wouldn't have eaten so much just now. Because I was too full, I chose the theater experience.

Lady She is in command. I don't understand. Just read the subtitles.

Puppet show. One of my favorite things when I was a kid. It's so memorable.

Hand shadow puppetry. Use your hands to portray many kinds of animals. Very lifelike

Face changing. I also loved watching it when I was a kid. This time I came here just for the face changing.

I experienced the shadow play. It was really difficult to operate. It's not easy for the staff on the stage.

By A loud breath |

I highly recommend the Liyuan stage play Feng Shu Ya Yun. The ticket price is 150 per person and the performance lasts for an hour and a half. Chengdu's Sichuan opera face-changing and shadow play are very distinctive and worth seeing.

Sichuan opera is a major feature of Sichuan culture. When you come to Chengdu, the hometown of opera, you must watch a Sichuan opera and face-changing. Shufeng Yayun is the only remaining classical opera house with a century-old history in Sichuan. Shufeng Yayun is a folk cultural hall where many famous actors and artists gather. Many tourists come here for its reputation. It is very popular. We went to the show at 10 pm, and it was still packed.

Tickets are divided into VIP, A, B, and C tickets. We chose the A ticket for 150 yuan. You can buy the ticket online and make an appointment on site. It is better to choose a natural seat early. The fee includes a gaiwan tea for one person, a small snack for each table, and the A ticket free item: snacks or doll experience, choose one of the two.

The program includes hand shadow play, a folk art that uses fluorescent lights to project moving hand shapes onto walls or curtains. The hand shapes keep changing, and the projected images also change accordingly, which is extremely vivid. There is also the Sichuan Opera clown show "Rolling Lantern".

Address: No. 136 Qintai Road, Zhonghua Liyuan Recommendation Index: ★★★★

I bought the combined ticket (panda base ticket + show ticket A) on MFW.

Purchase link → http://www.mafengwo.cn/sales/361208.html

Ticket A was assigned to the middle so it was very clear. Staff will guide you to your seat and serve you tea and melon seeds.

Then they will ask if you want to choose snacks or experience snacks including dumplings, dandan noodles, etc. Experiences include puppet shows, shadow plays, etc.

Let's choose food, after all, you can stand outside the door and follow the teacher's gestures.

I may not understand what is being sung in the play because I am not familiar with the language and performance style, but there will be subtitles on both sides so don't worry

The entire performance process is as follows:

Opening gong and drum show → Play: 100 Years in Command → Huqin performance (Erquan Yingyue + War Horse Galloping) → Puppet show + Play: Empty City Plan (Zhuge Liang, Sima Yi)

→Hand shadow play (dog, cat, monkey, rabbit, owl, wolf, horse, etc.) →Famous suona music (Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix) →Clown show (Rolling lanterns) →Finale (Clothes + Fire Breathing + Face Changing)】

The performance was good. Although I sat in the C-ticket area, I could still see it clearly. The performers were very professional and master-level. This old theater was good. It was different from the impression of Mount Emei. There was also a process of selling calligraphy and paintings during the performance.

This is a photo taken during the National Day in 2013

After visiting the Panda Tuanzi Base during the day, return to the city at night to enjoy the authentic Sichuan Opera face-changing.

Sichuan not only has a variety of delicious food, but also has a rich culture

By Keiko |

They are all national first- and second-level art masters, which is really wonderful! Today's repertoire is quite rich: Sichuan opera, Erhu War Horse Galloping & Erquan Reflecting the Moon, hand shadow play, puppet show, Sichuan local repertoire, face changing, etc.

Sichuan opera is a major feature of Sichuan culture. The most famous technique in Sichuan opera is face-changing, so it is a must to watch an authentic Sichuan opera in Chengdu! The Zhonghua Liyuan Old Theater is probably the most authentic Sichuan opera venue in Chengdu, where authentic folk art and classic operas are fully displayed. You should know that Sichuan opera is more than just face-changing!

Sichuan opera, especially the face-changing performances, is a unique feature of Chinese opera. This time I witnessed the "Shu Feng Ya Yun" Sichuan opera performance, which is a perfect inheritance of traditional opera. I also enjoyed a variety of Sichuan opera programs, including the makeup session after the performance. I thought it was great and would recommend it to my friends.

The makeup experience included with the VIP ticket is very interesting

"When I rode my horse to the west of Jincheng, I was drunk as a bee by the plum blossoms.

The fragrance continues for twenty miles, from Qingyang Palace to Huanhua Creek.

In the opera world, the sheng, dan, jing, mo and chou actors sang this poem in five different styles, and we would recite it from time to time in the following days.

It’s a pity that I didn’t have time to go to Huanhua Creek and Qingyang Palace. It’s a small regret. I really should have gone there~ It’s like having a conversation with the ancients across time and space.

The elegant Shu style is on Qintai Avenue, very close to Qingyang Palace.

There were rich programs, including Sichuan opera, erhu, puppet show, face changing and so on. Most of the audience were foreign friends. I suspect they could not understand the subtitles and were just watching for fun.

To be honest, I don’t understand it either, haha.

It felt like a small theater, and each table was served with melon seeds and covered tea bowls.

The reviews are meaningless since you can’t really tell how the facial expressions changed anyway, but a trip would be quite empty if you don’t take a look at these.

By Hao Mama |

It was a very exciting show, only 1.5 hours long! The program was quite rich, in addition to the famous face-changing and Sichuan opera, there were also hand shadow play, rolling lanterns, suona, puppet show, etc. It doesn't matter if you don't understand some local operas, there are subtitles next to them! The rolling lanterns were particularly interesting, and some new terms were added, such as "fresh meat" and "old bacon".

It is a good choice to listen to Sichuan opera at Shufeng Yayun Theater. The theater has a simple and elegant architecture and the style of ancient Sichuan. It is a classical opera theater that has experienced ups and downs for a hundred years. Today, Shufeng Yayun has gathered several famous actors in the Sichuan opera industry. The professionalism of Sichuan opera should not be underestimated. You can enjoy Gaohu performance, shadow play, puppet show, Sichuan opera, clown show, face changing, fire breathing, suona performance, etc., and there are also free tea bowls and peanuts.

Very suitable for children to experience, it is recommended to buy tickets on China-TravelNote, the discount is great. Each performance is very unique, face changing and fire breathing are the climax! Go early, put on makeup, put on costumes and pose, it is a good experience!

If you have time, you should go to a traditional opera house to watch a complete Sichuan opera. The Sichuan opera of more than ten minutes in places like Kuanzhai Alley or Jinli is really just a glimpse. You can't appreciate its charm, and even worse, it may destroy your little enthusiasm to understand it. We bought Class B tickets, and maybe because we arrived early, we were lucky to be arranged in the first row, behind the Class A area.

I bought a package with the Panda Base, which cost 150 yuan for about an hour and a half of performance. The Sichuan Opera performance was really substantial and exciting.

Mr. Lin Hailang's performance was charming, skillful, and full of emotion, which amazed me again and again.

The puppet girl's shape is very delicate, her expressions are rich, and her movements are even more flexible than mine. She is skilled in picking flowers, rolling up sleeves, shaking handkerchiefs, and catching butterflies. Her feather skills are even more amazing~!

Suona performance, performed by Ye Xiaolong (transliteration). Although I didn’t catch the name of the piece clearly, the performance took me back to my childhood.

Shufeng Yayun is a Sichuan Opera actor club on Qintai Road, Qingyang District, Chengdu. The Sichuan Opera performances here are as famous as those in Shunxing Old Teahouse in the Convention and Exhibition Center, Shufeng Square in People's Park, and Jinjiang Sichuan Opera House, but it is closer to attractions such as Kuanzhai Alley and Qingyang Palace, so it is more recommended. Tickets for the performance can be booked online, and there is no need to exchange tickets or queue up. The seats are all arranged. It takes about an hour. The most anticipated is the finale of the face-changing performance. If you are a VIP seat, you can also experience ear digging or Sichuan Opera makeup. The makeup time is too long, so you must be mentally prepared to experience it.

Note: Shufeng Yayun was once a Sichuan opera actor club where famous actors gathered. In recent years, famous actors in Sichuan have reunited to launch a "classic opera, folk art performance" every night. Not only has it become famous, but it has also been reported by media at home and abroad. In a blink of an eye, the old style of opera has been restored, and the traditional sounds and rhymes linger in the air. The civilization of Western Shu has been passed down from generation to generation, and it is blessed by nature. Face changing, fire breathing, and rolling lanterns are famous in China. The stick puppets are amazing and exquisite; the daughter's clear voice is indescribable. Listening to the plucked guqin, I dreamed of returning to the Three Kingdoms. Hearing the sound of the erhu, everything has changed. The hand shadow play that has disappeared for many years has returned to the people; the drums and music are soul-stirring and full of joy.

By Snow 3 Flying Who |

A very worthwhile show. But there were too many mosquitoes in the open air show, and I got bitten several times.

By lilium velvet |

I highly recommend watching Sichuan opera in Chengdu. If you don't understand, there will be prompt screens on both sides. The performance also includes a series of unique skills such as shadow play, puppet show, suona, erhu, face changing, etc. The whole audience cheered and it was really worth the trip. Face changing is the finale, and the actors will go off the stage and perform once in each ticket area from front to back, so there is no flaw even if it is right in front of you.

I bought tickets for the evening Shu Feng Ya Yun performance at China-TravelNote Mall. I listened to the guide's advice and said that if you don't buy VIP, you should buy B-tickets. A-tickets are indeed easy to be blocked. The 10-yuan voucher I won in the honey lottery came in handy. The ticket price includes tea and melon seeds. You can also order snacks in the venue. Entering the venue an hour in advance allows you to walk around and visit.

Shufeng Yayun Theater

Location: No. 132 Qintai Road, Qingyang District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, at the entrance of the City Cultural Park, Shufeng Yayun Folk Teahouse

It is a good choice to listen to Sichuan opera at Shufeng Yayun Theater. The theater has a simple and elegant architecture, and has the style of ancient Shu. It is a classical opera theater that has experienced ups and downs for a hundred years. Tickets can be booked online at a low price, and tea and peanuts are provided free of charge.

By Wying |

The performance is held in a century-old opera house. All the actors are veteran actors and are very dedicated. There are many types of performances. The VIP tickets are great value and come with a free costume trial, stage costume trial, ear cleaning, or back tapping.

By Doraemon |

The service was very good. It was a bit cold when I went there. I could ask them for a coat to wear. I could also watch the actors put on makeup before the show. I could also pay to take opera photos. The only downside was that there were no subtitles, which was a bit hard to understand.

By The mouse loves the cat |

Super good! Suitable for outsiders to experience Sichuan Opera for the first time, and you can also see the characteristics of fire breathing and face changing. The 80 ticket is great value.

By Mu Bai |

I bought a VIP ticket, which I personally think is worth it. Face-changing, fire-breathing, rolling lanterns, and puppet shows are all things to watch up close, so it's better to sit in the front. The makeup and costumes are also good, and the photos are beautiful.

Shufeng Yayun watched Sichuan Opera face-changing and other performances, which lasted 1.5 hours and provided free tea and snacks. We bought Class C tickets which cost 80 yuan per person.

Experience the authentic Sichuan opera. If you are traveling with your family, be sure to arrange an evening to watch it. Highly recommended!

By Ling Yitong |

We chose the Shufeng Yayun Theater in the Cultural Park. The ticket office is opposite the park and the theater is on the right side of the park entrance. Before the performance, you can go backstage to watch the actors put on makeup, or you can experience it yourself. A thick layer of white powder is applied on the face, eyebrows are drawn with ink, exaggerated blush and eye shadow are applied, hair pieces are attached, and heavy hair accessories are worn, and the image of the stage characters comes to life.

The performance began. The first play was "The Generals of the Yang Family". I, who usually don't like to listen to opera, found it very nice. Then there were performances of Gaohu, Suona, sand painting, and puppetry. But I personally prefer "Rolling Lantern", a clown play that combines skills with humor, which made the audience laugh continuously. Of course, the most amazing thing was the Sichuan Opera face-changing. The rapid rhythm changes drew applause from the audience. The actors even went off the stage in person to let the audience in the backstage feel the shock of art up close.

By Rabbit |

Before I went there, I was looking forward to the face-changing drama of Shufeng Yayun. I didn't expect that I had to appear last because of the makeup. The other classic performances were also unstoppable. I also experienced the puppetry and shadow puppetry there, which was very fun.

By Kenny |

It is a very recommended place to visit when you go to Chengdu. The tickets for the performances are not expensive, and they represent some of the local Sichuan opera styles.

By A rookie |

The performance of Shufeng Yayun is praised by many people as a must-see for Chengdu tourism! The vitality of this performance is completely different from the decline of traditional drama in many places. The performance uses humorous language and actions to fully display the traditional culture of the motherland through cultural forms such as Sichuan Opera, thus passing on the ancient culture in laughter and joy. A big thumbs up should be given here!!! I have always believed that it is not enough to rely solely on government transfusions and promotion to carry forward the inheritance of traditional culture. Only its own vitality is the most critical. My summary of the performance here is:

The musical instruments are melodious and beautiful

The shadow play is lifelike

Traditional Sichuan opera humor

The face-changing and fire-breathing skills are exquisite

Rod puppetry skills

The ceiling light stunt is hilarious

Almost every one of these performances has its own merits, and the shadow play and face-changing and fire-breathing performances are especially not to be missed. I have personally watched them twice, and not only tourists are full of praise for the performances here, but also Chengdu locals often come to support them, which shows its charm.

Useful tips:

About ticket purchase:

It is recommended to buy tickets from online platforms such as China-TravelNote and Taobao, which are much cheaper than on-site (almost half price). When redeeming tickets on site, you need to tell the staff the booking platform and name. The service attitude is very good and fast. The advantage of buying tickets on site is that you can choose seats, so it is recommended to order as early as possible online, so that the position is still good. Regarding the ballot, it is recommended that if you want to guarantee the effect, VIP is of course the best. The online price is generally around 190 yuan/person. However, in fact, the entire garden is not very large, and the performance will be interactive, and the face will change and go off the stage, so if you don’t buy VIP tickets, the most recommended is the front row of the B ticket, the online price is 110, and the cost performance is the best. Because the 140 yuan A ticket is too close to the VIP, the view will be blocked. If you sit on the side, the effect will be worse. If you can do the first row in the middle of the B ticket, that’s the best! The A-class ticket is not recommended because it will be very good if you are in the middle, but if you are unfortunately on the side, the view will be very bad. As for the 70 yuan C ticket, it is not recommended because the position is too far back.

About the performance:

The show officially starts at 8:00, but it is strongly recommended to arrive at 7:00! The reasons are as follows:

1. Arrive early. You can enter the park after 7 o'clock. This makes it convenient to visit and take pictures. You can watch the performance carefully when it starts. However, I personally watched it twice. The first time I just took pictures. A year later, I went to Chengdu and couldn't help but watch it again.

2. If you enter in advance, you can watch the actors putting on makeup backstage and experience the makeup process yourself. It is quite nice to see the birth of beautiful makeup.

3. If you arrive earlier to redeem your ticket, you may get a better seat.

4. If you come to Chengdu in summer, there will be a lot of mosquitoes because the performance is outdoors, but the theater provides floral water and fans (so the smell here is full of floral water in summer). The ticket price includes a special snack or doll experience and covered tea.

In the evening, we booked a performance of Shufeng Yayun, which is located on Qintai Road, very close to Qingyang Palace. It is within walking distance to the Sichuan Opera Actors Guild Hall, which used to be a gathering place for famous actors. In recent years, it has reunited famous actors in Sichuan and launched a "classic opera and folk art performance" every night.

The ticket price should have increased. I booked online and paid extra for the seat selection, which turned out to be worth it. I sat in the second row and could watch the show up close.

Fengyayun is called a theater, but it is actually a stage set up under a canopy in a large courtyard. It may not be the largest or most grand in Chengdu, but it should be the most authentic Sichuan opera venue. The audience sits on bamboo chairs to watch the performances of the artists, and there are free tea bowls and peanuts, which is both down-to-earth and friendly.

The ticket price also includes the opportunity to try on the Hanfu and visit the backstage. It's a great opportunity. You must try it. The whole performance was very exciting and dazzled me.

Shufeng Yayun Theater is located on Qintai Road in Chengdu. As soon as you exit the subway, there is a very obvious archway of Qintai Ancient Path. Just keep walking inside and you will find Shufeng Yayun Theater. The tickets for Shufeng Yayun are also purchased online together with the tickets for the Panda Base. You can go directly to the Shufeng Yayun lobby to exchange your tickets. There is usually a performance from 20:00 to 21:30, and there are additional performances on holidays from 18:00 to 19:30. There are two performances in total. We booked the ticket for the 20:00 show. There are many Sichuan Opera costumes, accessories and props in the Shufeng Yayun lobby for viewing and purchase, which are very exquisite and gorgeous.

The inn we stayed in offered a service for buying tickets for the [Shu Feng Ya Yun] performance. We chose the most expensive tier, the original price for VIP was 320 yuan, but it was 190 yuan when we bought it at the inn. In the end, we were seated in the third row when we picked up the tickets on site, which was okay. The front row will probably be reserved for those who bought the tickets on site at the original price.

VIP tickets come with a choice of four services (back massage, ear cleaning, wearing costumes, and makeup). We chose the back massage, which was quite good and took about five minutes.

While watching the performance, you can order some Sichuan snacks, including glutinous rice balls, long shou, etc.

Many of the visitors are tour groups and foreigners.

It starts at 8pm, and you can enter at 7:40pm. You will have a back massage first, and visit the backstage of makeup and costumes. It will end at about 9:30pm.

Book your ticket early to see it clearly~~~~The hand shadow and face changing are very good

By brolin |

The theater is located inside the Municipal Cultural Park at No. 132 Qintai Road, very close to the park entrance. The ticket office is across the street (see the picture below)

A big bowl of tea with a few snacks and a big fan to fan yourself is a very traditional experience. In addition, there is an ancient massage for 50 yuan per time.

There are many unique performances that leave a deep impression on people: hand shadow play, puppet show, rolling lanterns, Sichuan opera face-changing and fire-breathing, etc.

The service is pretty good. You can choose a small snack or try the hand shadow with the first ticket. We chose the snacks, which tasted very good (the glutinous rice balls were sweet, and the spicy wontons were very fragrant)

I booked the tickets in advance and went to see it on the first night in Chengdu. It was very exciting and worth seeing. The transportation is very convenient. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from Kuanzhai Alley. Except for the first part which was a bit boring, I think the rest was very exciting. For example, the shadow play, everyone was fascinated by it. I didn't expect that a pair of hands could perform a play so excitingly. And the face-changing, this is really the finale, absolutely, very exciting, and it was performed in front of the audience. The actors have such confidence because of their strong skills!

Shufeng Yayun Theater is located on Qintai Road, at the back door of the Cultural Park. As a Chengdu native, I have passed by here countless times and was attracted by a pair of peculiarly shaped unicorns at the door, but I have never stepped into it, let alone knowing that it is a theater until I went to see a performance not long ago. Shufeng Yayun Theater has several different performance venues, some of which are dedicated to Sichuan opera performances, and some are dedicated to traditional folk stunts. We watched "shadow play", the ticket price was 80 yuan/person, and it was cheaper to book online for 58 yuan/person, but we booked it on the weekend, and it would be cheaper if it was not a weekend, 38 yuan/person. The performers are Shen Xiao, Xiang Xiaoying and his team, the famous Sichuan hand shadow artist, including the traditional glove puppet show "Brothers Fighting Tigers", and the hand movie that combines traditional art images such as hand shadow, shadow play, and string puppets. You can feel the strong atmosphere of Chengdu from it, and there is a sense of montage. The performance environment is also good. This theater is on the second floor. It is not particularly large, but it is very delicate, with the feeling of a traditional old theater. There are no rows of seats, but instead square tables. Only four people can sit at a table. The ticket also includes covered tea bowls. The tea is really good. You can choose jasmine tea and green tea. The tea leaves are individually packaged and brewed immediately after opening. It is really good. After brewing several times, it is still very similar. Each table is also served with some snacks such as peanuts and peas. Drinking tea, eating snacks and watching performances at the same time, life in Chengdu is so comfortable~~~The theater also displays many shadow puppets, glove puppets, and marionettes. Relatives can experience them before or after the performance~~
