Manchuanguan Town, located in Shanyang County, Shangluo City, Shaanxi Province, was formerly known as Fengyangguan, Fengyangchuan, and also as the Manzi Kingdom. With its water and land wharves connecting various regions, Manchuanguan boasted a thriving business and a dense population. The town was known for its "hundreds of boats lined up at the water wharf, and thousands of horses galloping along the land wharf." It also served as a gateway to Qin and Jin in the north and Wu and Chu in the south. The allusion to "serving Qin in the morning and Chu in the evening" originated from this place.
Manchuanguan once had two main streets and towns. One was Water Wharf Street, commonly known as "Little Hankou," along the Jinqian River. A li-long Ming and Qing street, also known as "Scorpion Street," stretched along the river's edge and primarily served boat gangs from the south. The other was Dry Wharf Ming and Qing Street, where the town government is now located, primarily serving mule gangs from the north. The two streets are separated by Jinjia River and Ruyi Mountain, and are a li apart.
Manchuanguan boasts a long history and numerous historical sites. It boasts a wide array of ancient cultural relics, cultural landscapes, and mythological legends. Eight major cultural relics and historical sites are located here: the Mule Gang Guild Hall, the Yuanyang Opera House, the Wuchang Guild Hall, the North Guild Hall, the Thousand Buddha Caves (home to 222 existing Buddha statues), the Wusheng Palace, the Zhenshi Buddhist Scripture Collection, and the Qiaocun Yangshao Culture Site. Other historical sites include the Yibaidan and Er Temples, the White Tiger Temple at Sanguan Town, the ancient pine trees at the Wanfu Niangniang Temple, and ancient residences such as the Huang Family Pharmacy and the Lotus House.
The warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate features four distinct seasons, with rain and heat occurring in the same season, and distinct dry and wet seasons in the summer and winter. Avoid the cold winter and travel in spring, summer, and autumn.
