Lake Davenport - Fishing & Boat Rental?

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I was just wondering if anyone had any information on the fishing at Lake Davenport and if there is anywhere to fish from on the shore of the lake?

I’m also curious as to the boat hire and if anyone knew of prices to hire a bass fishing boat?

Any info is appreciated.

Lake Davenport, located in Davenport, Central Florida, is a popular spot for bass fishing and other freshwater angling activities. The lake is surrounded by residential areas and some public access points, making it suitable for both shore and boat fishing, although shore access can be limited in certain areas.

Fishing at Lake Davenport:

  • Species: The lake is known primarily for largemouth bass, but you can also find crappie, bluegill, and catfish.
  • Shore Fishing: Public access for shore fishing is somewhat limited. Certain points along the lake edge, particularly near boat ramps and public parks, are suitable for casting from land. Be mindful of private property boundaries.
  • Best times: Early morning and late afternoon are typically the most productive times for bass fishing, especially during the spring and fall.

Boat rentals and fishing boats:

  • Boat Rentals: There are a few local marinas and rental services near Davenport that offer small fishing boats, pontoon boats, and kayaks. Prices generally start around $50–$100 for a half-day rental, with full-day rates ranging from $100–$200 depending on the type of boat and equipment included.
  • Bass Fishing Boats: If you are looking specifically for bass fishing boats equipped with trolling motors and fishing gear, some rental operators provide these, often starting at about $100–$150 for a half-day and up to $200–$250 for a full day.
  • Guided Trips: Some local guides offer bass fishing charters on Lake Davenport and nearby lakes in the Central Florida area. These trips often include equipment and expert guidance, typically costing $200–$300 for a half-day trip for two people.

Additional tips:

  • Check for Florida fishing license requirements before heading out; both residents and visitors need one for freshwater fishing.
  • Call ahead to confirm boat rental availability, especially during peak travel seasons, as inventory can be limited.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, and appropriate safety equipment when boating, as local weather can be unpredictable.

Overall, Lake Davenport offers a good mix of bass fishing opportunities for both shore anglers and those using boats. With some planning and checking local rental options, you can have a productive and enjoyable fishing day.
