Alcohol Rules

My family and I are looking to come down in July. After doing some research, I’ve discovered there are a lot of areas with no alcohol on the beach policies. Where would be the best place to enjoy the beach, our beach beers, close to restaurants, and would accommodate 4 adults and two teenagers. Thanks in advance!

Treasure Island, Florida, is known for its wide, sandy beaches and family-friendly atmosphere. However, the city has strict regulations regarding alcohol consumption on public beaches. Open containers of alcohol are generally prohibited on public beach areas, which means enjoying a beer directly on the sand is not allowed. Enforcement can vary, and some visitors do bring coolers for private beach accommodations, but technically it is against the law.

If your goal is to enjoy the beach, have access to nearby restaurants, and accommodate 4 adults and two teenagers comfortably, the best strategy is to choose lodging that provides private beach access or resort amenities where alcohol is permitted on-site. Many resorts and vacation rentals in Treasure Island and nearby St. Pete Beach allow alcohol at poolside or in designated areas.

Recommended areas and options:

  • Treasure Island Public Beaches: Great for families, beautiful sand and surf, but no public alcohol allowed.
  • St. Pete Beach: Nearby, similar beach experience, some hotels and resorts provide pools or decks where alcohol is allowed.
  • Vacation Rentals / Resorts: Opt for condos or resorts that include beachside decks or private beach access where you can enjoy drinks legally.

When it comes to convenience for dining:

  • Treasure Island Beachcomber area: Close to casual restaurants and bars, walking distance from several public beach access points.
  • Gulf Boulevard: Lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops, many of which allow outdoor seating with drinks.
  • Nearby St. Pete Beach: Slightly more vibrant nightlife and dining options while still family-friendly during the day.

Additional tips for your trip:

  • Consider vacation rentals with kitchens or poolside bars for flexibility and family comfort.
  • Plan beach outings early in the day for less crowded experience, especially in July.
  • Check resort policies carefully regarding alcohol if you plan to enjoy drinks while the teenagers are present.

In summary, while Treasure Island public beaches are beautiful, they are not ideal for bringing alcohol. For a balance of beach enjoyment, dining convenience, and legal alcohol use, staying at a resort or private rental with beach or pool access near Treasure Island or St. Pete Beach is the best approach.
