Global Entry Interview on Arrival ATL
Has anyone recently done their Global Entry interview on arrival at ATL?
Curious as to whether I'll need to clear Immigration first and then have the interview - OR - can you procede directly to a designated line and have the interview/immigration taken care of at the same time? From what I understand the procedures vary from airport to airport.
Thank you
Atlanta (ATL) does offer Global Entry “Enrollment on Arrival,” and the process is very straightforward once you know what to expect. Unlike some airports where you can divert to a special line before clearing Immigration, at ATL you must first go through the normal international arrival procedures before you have access to the Global Entry interview area.
Here is what the process typically looks like at ATL, based on recent traveler experiences:
How the ATL Enrollment on Arrival Process Works
- You must clear regular Immigration first. Everyone arriving internationally at ATL—whether they have a Global Entry appointment or not—starts with standard U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) immigration lines.
- After Immigration, you proceed to Baggage Claim and Customs like all other travelers. There is no option to bypass this step at ATL.
- Once you exit the Customs area and enter the main arrivals hallway, you will see a Global Entry Enrollment on Arrival desk staffed by CBP officers.
- You simply walk up to the desk, say you are there for Enrollment on Arrival, present your passport + conditional approval letter, and they complete the interview.
What the Interview Is Like at ATL
- Usually 5–10 minutes long.
- Officer confirms your information, asks a few standard questions (travel habits, criminal background, purpose of GE).
- They take your photo and/or fingerprints.
- You receive approval on the spot or within a few hours.
Good to Know
- No appointment needed for Enrollment on Arrival—it’s walk-up only.
- Hours can vary, but typically align with CBP staffing during peak international arrival periods.
- If there is a line, it’s usually short, but can get busy during clusters of international flights.
- Allow an extra 20–45 minutes in your schedule just to be safe, especially if you have a connection.
Summary
You must complete regular Immigration and Customs first at ATL. After exiting the Customs area, you can immediately proceed to the Global Entry Enrollment on Arrival desk for your interview. The interview is quick, straightforward, and much easier than scheduling a traditional appointment.
Safe travels, and enjoy having Global Entry!
