Sea Horse vs. Silver Sands vs. Diplomat

For a week in late January --- I know individual units vary, but for anyone with fairly recent experience at any of these places... what is your general impression? Any tips? I don't care about the absence of granite countertops but I do want something very clean, with good/newer bed and decent kitchen amenities. Looking for a 1-bedroom (not studio) with at least partial gulf view from the unit. (....Also considering a tiny cottage on Anna Maria....) [Since I hear the road traffic can be quite busy, I was kind of hoping to find a place within walking distance (4 blocks) of a couple of restaurants; but I don't think any of the 3 would have any restaurants closeby.] Thanks for any advice and guidance!

For a stay on Longboat Key in late January, all three properties—Sea Horse, Silver Sands, and Diplomat—have their own strengths, though the differences often come down to location, amenities, and unit updates. Here’s a detailed overview based on recent guest experiences and general impressions:

Sea Horse: Known for its quieter, more intimate setting with fewer units, which can make for a peaceful stay. Many guests note that units are clean and well-maintained, with newer beds and functional kitchens. Beach access is direct and convenient.

Silver Sands: Larger property with more units, so the beach and pool areas can feel a bit busier during peak times, even in January. Units are generally updated and clean, with comfortable beds and kitchens that are adequate for light cooking. Some units offer partial or full gulf views.

Diplomat: Often praised for spacious units and a good balance between location and amenities. Kitchens are well-equipped, and units are kept clean. Guests appreciate the partial gulf views in many 1-bedroom condos. The property tends to have a resort-like feel, with more facilities than the smaller Sea Horse.

  • All three options are somewhat removed from restaurants; you’ll likely need to drive or take a short ride to reach dining options, as walking to restaurants within 4 blocks is limited.
  • Sea Horse tends to feel the most private and less trafficked, which can be nice for a relaxing week.
  • Diplomat offers slightly newer amenities and more spacious layouts, which can make a stay more comfortable if you plan to cook or spend time indoors.

Additional considerations:

  • Traffic on Longboat Key can be noticeable, especially around the southern part near Anna Maria and Sarasota; plan extra time if you are driving to nearby restaurants.
  • Check unit-specific reviews, as the overall property may be well-maintained, but individual units can vary in bed quality, cleanliness, and kitchen equipment.
  • Partial gulf views are common, so verify which units offer them when booking.
  • A tiny cottage on Anna Maria might offer more charm and walkability but usually comes with fewer amenities compared to the Longboat Key condo options.

Overall, for cleanliness, newer beds, and decent kitchen amenities, Sea Horse and Diplomat tend to receive consistently positive feedback. Silver Sands is also a solid choice, but may feel busier and less private. Prioritize units with updated reviews and partial gulf views to match your expectations.
