Palo Alto Sports Bars

Asking in the SF Forum for more visibility since this is for tomorrow, the PA forum is very quiet.

Flying up and back tomorrow for the Oregon vs Stanford game. My favorite spot The Old Pro has closed and unless Im mistaken the new owner has not reopened it yet.

My pregame plan as of now is to hit The Patio, does anyone else have a favorite sport bar on/around University? Lots of TV's. craft beer, decent food?

Thanks

Palo Alto has a few solid sports bars near Stanford University that cater to college football fans, with plenty of TVs, good food, and craft beer options. Since The Old Pro is closed, here are some alternatives for a pregame gathering:

Popular Sports Bars Around Stanford/University Avenue:

  • The Patio: You’re already considering this spot, and it’s a reliable choice. It has a lively atmosphere, multiple TVs, a good selection of craft beers, and standard pub food. It tends to fill up quickly on game days.
  • Osteria: While more of a casual restaurant, they have TVs and a good beer selection. Best if you want a slightly quieter environment before the crowd hits.
  • MacArthur Park: Located a bit further away but has a solid craft beer lineup and TVs for sports. Offers a spacious setting for larger groups.
  • Pepper’s Sports Bar & Grill: Classic sports bar with multiple screens, typical bar fare, and a casual vibe. Good for catching the game with a lively crowd.

Tips for Game Day:

  • Arrive early, especially for popular games, as these spots fill fast.
  • Check if the bar offers any happy hour specials or pregame deals for food and drinks.
  • Consider calling ahead to confirm they’ll be showing the Oregon vs Stanford game.
  • Parking near University Avenue can be tight; look for public lots or metered spaces.

Overall, The Patio is a strong choice for a lively, central pregame experience, but Pepper’s or MacArthur Park are good alternatives if you prefer slightly different atmospheres or need more space.
