Christmas Holiday in KC

We will be in KC for Christmas and a few days following. We have a son that is over 21 and a 13 year-old. Looking for a nice and/or fun holiday dinner spot the day after Christmas. Would love for it to be festive and great food! Price not an issue. We could go for a fancy spot where the Christmas ambiance is over the top or a fun spot where it is all about the season. Thanks for your thoughts!

Spending the Christmas holiday in Kansas City offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy festive dining in a city known for both high-quality cuisine and seasonal decorations. Since your group includes a 13-year-old and an adult over 21, you’ll want a place that balances a lively, family-friendly atmosphere with the possibility of upscale dining experiences. The day after Christmas can be busy, so reservations are highly recommended for most of the popular spots.

Kansas City has a variety of restaurants that go all out for the holiday season, from fancy fine dining with elaborate décor to fun, seasonal-themed restaurants perfect for a festive celebration. Here are some options to consider:

  • The American Restaurant at the Kansas City Country Club Plaza: Known for fine dining and exceptional holiday ambiance, the restaurant often features seasonal decorations, special Christmas menus, and a festive atmosphere. It’s a more upscale option with beautifully presented dishes and attentive service, perfect for a fancy holiday meal.
  • Gram & Dun: Located in the heart of the Country Club Plaza, Gram & Dun is a steak and seafood spot with a warm, elegant ambiance. During the holidays, it’s decorated festively, offering a cozy yet upscale vibe that appeals to both adults and teenagers.
  • Corvino Supper Club & Tasting Room: Corvino provides a sophisticated dining experience with seasonal tasting menus and a lively, slightly theatrical environment. Their holiday menus often feature multi-course meals with creative twists, making it ideal for a festive celebration that’s also fun and engaging.
  • The Monarch Bar & Grill (inside the historic Crossroads District hotels): If you’re looking for something with a bit more seasonal flair and decorations, this spot offers festive cocktails for adults and a warm, cheerful environment that is still family-friendly during the day.
  • Hereford House or Jack Stack Barbecue (Downtown or Country Club Plaza locations): For a more casual, festive, and uniquely Kansas City experience, consider top-tier barbecue restaurants. Jack Stack often adds holiday touches to its ambiance, and it’s fun for all ages while delivering some of the best BBQ in the city.

Additional considerations for a holiday meal in Kansas City:

  • Many upscale restaurants offer special Christmas or post-Christmas prix fixe menus—these can be an excellent way to ensure a festive experience without the usual menu choices.
  • Decorations: The Plaza and Crossroads District are beautifully lit and decorated during the season, so choosing a restaurant in these areas enhances the festive experience.
  • Accessibility: Make sure to check if the restaurant requires advanced reservations for large parties, especially the day after Christmas.
  • Family-friendly options: Even at fancier locations, check for children’s menus or adaptable dishes for younger diners, ensuring everyone enjoys the meal.

In summary, if you are seeking a truly fancy, over-the-top holiday ambiance with gourmet food, The American Restaurant or Corvino Supper Club are excellent choices. If you prefer a more festive, fun, and casual post-Christmas experience, Jack Stack Barbecue or Gram & Dun offer a cheerful holiday vibe without sacrificing quality. Booking early and confirming holiday menus will help guarantee a memorable and festive family dinner in Kansas City.
