Savanah Itinerary
I’ll be visiting Savannah for 2 1/2 days. Wondering if anybody has a recommendation for itinerary for that timeframe
For a 2 1/2 day visit to Savannah, you can experience a mix of historic sites, beautiful squares, and local food. The key is to prioritize walking-friendly areas and cluster activities to minimize travel time.
Here’s a suggested itinerary:
- Day 1 – Historic District & Riverfront: Start with a morning walk along River Street to enjoy the cobblestone streets, shops, and views of the Savannah River. Grab lunch at a riverside café. In the afternoon, visit some historic homes or museums such as the Owens-Thomas House or Telfair Academy. End the day with dinner in the Historic District, perhaps at a place like The Collins Quarter or Treylor Park.
- Day 2 – Squares, Gardens, and Museums: Spend the morning exploring Savannah’s famous squares (Forsyth Park is a must). You can also take a guided walking or trolley tour to learn about the city’s history and architecture. In the afternoon, consider visiting the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the SCAD Museum of Art, or Bonaventure Cemetery. Evening options include a ghost tour or dinner at a cozy local spot like The Grey or Vic’s on the River.
- Day 3 (Half Day) – Local Flavors and Tybee Island (Optional): Use your final morning to enjoy breakfast at a local café, visit City Market, or pick up last-minute souvenirs. If you want to venture slightly outside the city and have time, a short trip to Tybee Island (about 20–30 minutes by car) is possible for a quick stroll on the beach. Otherwise, focus on downtown attractions you may have missed.
Additional tips:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes as Savannah is best explored on foot.
- Use the DOT free shuttle (DOT Downtown Loop) for longer stretches without worrying about parking.
- Make dinner reservations in advance, especially if visiting on weekends or holidays.
- If interested in history or literature, consider adding the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace or the Davenport House Museum.
This itinerary balances sightseeing, walking, and downtime, giving you a full taste of Savannah without feeling rushed.
