My husband and i will be visiting Savanah, & Beaufort area for 4 days. i’d love a resort beach experience in an accomodation that is affordable any suggestions ? is staying st Hilton head mega hotel fun in January? Also we fly out late Sunday but have to exit rooms at 11:00 what would you do on a sunday afternoon if you’re an outdoors person ?

If you are looking for hotels in the Savannah and Hilton Head area with winter-accessible swimming pools and a resort-style experience, there are a few options that can balance comfort, affordability, and beach access. January is off-season, so some resorts may feel quieter, but that can be a plus if you prefer a more relaxed environment.

Some hotel/resort suggestions with heated pools or indoor pool options include:

  • Hyatt Regency Savannah: Located downtown along the riverfront. While not directly a beach resort, it offers a nice heated indoor pool and easy access to Savannah’s attractions.
  • Marriott Savannah Riverfront: Heated indoor pool, central location, and walkable to many restaurants and shops.
  • Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island: Beachfront resort with indoor and outdoor pools (heated seasonally). Offers a resort feel and quiet in January.
  • Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort: Oceanfront resort with indoor and heated outdoor pools, walking trails, and a full-service spa. More of a “resort experience” even in winter.
  • Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa: Another oceanfront option with heated pools and resort amenities; slightly less crowded in January.

Regarding Hilton Head mega hotels in January:

  • Many of the larger resorts on Hilton Head Island are much quieter in January. Pools may be open but outdoor swimming may be chilly unless heated.
  • The beaches are lovely for walks, biking, and outdoor activities, but nightlife and restaurant activity will be much quieter than in peak season.

For a Sunday afternoon after checking out (assuming you have luggage storage available at your hotel):

  • Walk or bike along the beach or Hilton Head’s scenic trails.
  • Explore Savannah’s Historic District squares, Forsyth Park, or River Street if you want a mix of walking and sightseeing.
  • Visit a nearby nature reserve, such as Wormsloe Historic Site near Savannah or Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge near Hilton Head, for outdoor exploration and wildlife viewing.
  • Consider a riverboat or harbor tour in Savannah if the weather allows.

Overall, for an outdoors-oriented trip in winter, a quieter resort with a heated pool and access to walking, biking, or nature trails would give you the best combination of relaxation and activity. Hilton Head in January is more for serene, scenic experiences rather than a bustling resort vibe.
