hotels south of the airport
Hi all
please understand i have never been to Atlanta. Am stating the obvious ( to me ) in the beginning but am hoping for some advice on my thoughts.
We are taking a little road trip landing in Atlanta around 17:30. We will be ending back in Atlanta for the final 2 nights.
The next morning we will be heading straight out to Montgomery which is the other way from the airport to Atlanta.
Taking into account clearing customs / immigration. Getting cases picking up the hire care and so on. We would most likely get there late evening. It would seem pointless to drive to Atlanta just to grab some food and sleep to drive back past where we came from.
I don't really want to stay in an airport hotel and would much rather drive 30 mins towards Montgomery. check into a nice place and eat somewhere local before grabbing some sleep for the morning
Thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated. Even if its just go to Atlanta its not that much of a chore coming back and you have more choice.
on that thought downtown or mid ?
thanks in advance
It sounds like you’re looking for a convenient and comfortable place to stay on your first night in Atlanta, especially since you’ll be heading towards Montgomery the next morning. Since you’d like to avoid staying at the airport and prefer to drive a bit toward Montgomery, I think you’re on the right track. Staying south of the airport will give you a chance to break up your journey and enjoy a local area before continuing your road trip.
Here are a few areas and hotel options that might be worth considering, all within a 30-minute drive from the airport, and closer to your direction towards Montgomery:
- Peachtree City: About a 20-25 minute drive from the airport, Peachtree City is a pleasant, suburban area known for its small-town charm and golf-cart paths. There are a few nice hotels here, and it offers a quiet environment for a restful night after your flight.
- The Hilton Garden Inn Peachtree City – A solid option with comfortable rooms, an on-site restaurant, and a good location for accessing both the airport and your route towards Montgomery.
- Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Peachtree City – Another solid choice with modern amenities and a convenient location, close to local dining options.
- Newnan: About 30 minutes south of the airport, Newnan is a historic town with a quaint downtown area and several hotels. It’s further along the way toward Montgomery, so it could be a convenient stop on your road trip.
- Courtyard by Marriott Newnan – A comfortable and modern hotel with good amenities and proximity to local restaurants and shops.
- Best Western Plus Newnan Hotel – Another solid and affordable option with a good breakfast and convenient access to highways.
- Morrow: Located just south of the airport, Morrow is a smaller area with a few hotels and quick access to major highways. It's an ideal stop if you're looking to be close to the airport but still avoid staying in the immediate airport area.
- Drury Inn & Suites Atlanta Morrow – A popular choice with a good reputation for its free breakfast, evening drinks, and comfortable accommodations.
- La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Atlanta South – Morrow – A budget-friendly option with basic amenities, close to the highway and easy to get on the road in the morning.
For food, both Peachtree City and Newnan offer some great local dining spots to enjoy before heading to bed:
- In Peachtree City: Consider The Beer Garden for a relaxed, casual atmosphere with American fare, or Chick-fil-A Dwarf House for a local twist on the classic Chick-fil-A restaurant.
- In Newnan: Check out The Smokehouse Grill for Southern barbecue or The Olive Garden if you're looking for Italian options.
- In Morrow: Big Pie In The Sky is a great place for pizza if you're in the mood for something quick and casual.
In terms of staying in downtown Atlanta or Midtown, you would have more hotel choices and access to dining, shopping, and attractions. However, given your plan to drive towards Montgomery the next day, staying further south makes more sense to avoid backtracking, especially if your goal is just to rest and get ready for the next leg of your trip.
In summary, I would recommend one of the following based on your preferences:
- Peachtree City
– Great for a peaceful night with options for comfortable hotels and good restaurants.
- Newnan
– A bit farther south, but a charming historic town with several good hotels.
- Morrow
– Close to the airport, convenient, and easy to get on the road the next day.
Each of these locations will provide you with a relaxing environment before you continue your road trip. Safe travels, and I hope you have a great trip!
