shuttle

Hi! We are 5 hikers with permits to hike the Hopi Salt Trail on April 20th. We would like to leave our car at the Grand Canyon Village, so we can pick it up as we exit the Canyon from the Grandview Trail. We need to find a shuttle from the Village to the start of the Salt Trail. Does anyone in Cameron operate a shuttle for the area?

Thanks so much for any information! Terrie

Organizing a shuttle for the Hopi Salt Trail hike can be a bit tricky, as it is a remote backcountry trail and not directly served by regular shuttle services. Most hikers who do this route arrange either a private shuttle or a car shuttle with local tour operators in the Cameron or Grand Canyon area.

Here are some options and considerations:

  • Private shuttle services: Some outfitters in Cameron, such as local tour companies or guiding services, offer private shuttle arrangements for hikers. You would need to contact them in advance, explain your start and end points (Grand Canyon Village to Hopi Salt Trail), and confirm pricing and availability.
  • Hopi Guides/Local contacts: Certain local guides familiar with the Salt Trail may provide shuttle or drop-off services as part of a guided or self-guided hike package. This can be more reliable than trying to coordinate independently.
  • Car shuttle coordination: Another option is to have one person drive to the end point (Grandview Trail) and leave a vehicle there, then return with the group to the start (Salt Trail). This requires extra coordination and a second vehicle, but sometimes is simpler than relying on external shuttles.

Additional tips:

  • Book shuttles well in advance, especially for April, as this is a popular time for hiking.
  • Confirm the service covers the exact trailhead locations, as some shuttle services only operate on the main roads and overlooks.
  • Consider contacting the Grand Canyon Backcountry Office or visitor center; they sometimes have updated information on local shuttle services for backcountry routes like the Hopi Salt Trail.

In summary, there is no public shuttle that directly services the Hopi Salt Trail, so you will likely need a private shuttle arranged through a local operator or coordinate a car shuttle with your own vehicles. Planning ahead is essential to ensure a smooth start and finish for the hike.
