Huntley - Shore - Viceroy

Hi…. My wife and are are spending 5 nights in Santa Monica in October and have narrowed our hotel search down to the 3 hotels (Huntley/Shore/Viceroy).

Has anyone any experience of them and or an opinion on which one they prefer

Thanks

All three hotels you’re considering—Huntley, Shore, and Viceroy—are excellent choices in Santa Monica, but they each have slightly different vibes, locations, and amenities, so the “best” one depends on what you prioritize for your stay.

Here’s a breakdown of each:

  • The Huntley Hotel: Located a short walk from the beach and the Third Street Promenade, the Huntley is known for its modern design and excellent rooftop restaurant with panoramic views. Rooms are stylish and comfortable, though some are on the smaller side. It offers a boutique luxury feel without being over the top. Ideal if you enjoy easy access to shopping, dining, and the beach while also having a nice spot to relax in the evening with a view.
  • The Shore Hotel: This hotel is eco-friendly and right across from Santa Monica Beach, so beach access is incredibly convenient. The rooms are spacious, modern, and filled with natural light. It has a slightly more relaxed, family-friendly vibe compared to the Huntley or Viceroy. There’s also a pool, which can be nice for lounging. Great choice if you want a very walkable location to the pier and beach and prefer a quieter, sustainable-focused hotel experience.
  • Viceroy Santa Monica: This is the most resort-like of the three, with a trendy, vibrant atmosphere. The decor is stylish and fun, and the pool area is very Instagrammable with a lively energy. Rooms are luxurious and comfortable. It’s located a bit further from the immediate beach access compared to the Shore, but still within walking distance. Best if you enjoy a boutique-resort feel, nightlife, and more hotel-centric amenities.

Additional considerations:

  • All three have excellent service and amenities, so comfort won’t be an issue.
  • If your focus is walking to the beach and pier, the Shore is arguably the most convenient.
  • For views and a central location with rooftop dining, Huntley is ideal.
  • For a lively, resort-style experience with a pool and social atmosphere, Viceroy is the best fit.

Overall, if you value direct beach access and a calm environment, go with the Shore. If you want iconic views and a trendy, central hotel, choose the Huntley. If you prefer a resort-like feel with more on-site social spaces and stylish décor, the Viceroy would suit you best.
