Dining options

What are the best dining options in and around Gardiner? I realize there isn’t going to be a lot of (or any) fine dining, but what are some good choices for breakfast/lunch/dinner? Unfortunately the covered wagon dinner thing offered at Yellowstone starts the week after we are coming. Such a bummer!

Gardiner, Montana, is a charming gateway town to Yellowstone National Park, and while it’s small, it offers a nice variety of casual dining options that can satisfy breakfast, lunch, and dinner cravings. Although fine dining is limited, there are several local favorites and cozy spots worth checking out.

Breakfast & Brunch:

  • Mammoth Bar & Grill: Popular for hearty breakfast options and a classic diner feel. Pancakes, eggs, and breakfast sandwiches are all solid choices.
  • Yellowstone Grill: Offers good breakfast fare, including omelets and hearty skillets, and is located conveniently near town.
  • The Old Saloon: While more known for its historic saloon vibe, it also serves breakfast and is a fun place to soak in some local history.

Lunch Options:

  • Wild West Pizzeria: Casual spot with tasty pizza, sandwiches, and salads. Great for a quick, filling lunch before heading into Yellowstone.
  • Gardiner Market & Deli: Offers sandwiches, soups, and picnic options if you want to take lunch into the park.
  • The Mint Bar & Grill: Good for burgers, sandwiches, and American comfort food in a laid-back setting.

Dinner Choices:

  • Iron Horse Bar & Grill: A local favorite for casual dining with options like steak, burgers, and seafood. Nice atmosphere for a relaxed evening.
  • The Raven Grill: Offers American-style dishes, including steaks, ribs, and pasta. Good service and a cozy setting.
  • Wild West Pizzeria (Dinner): Also serves dinner if you prefer a more casual, quick meal in the evening.

Other Tips:

  • Gardiner is small, so reservations are not always necessary, but during peak Yellowstone season, it can get busy, so consider calling ahead for dinner.
  • Many visitors also pack snacks or meals to bring into the park, especially if you plan a long day of hiking or sightseeing.
  • If you’re looking for a unique experience, some lodging options in the area may offer seasonal or special dinners, so it’s worth checking locally.

Overall, Gardiner has enough dining variety to enjoy hearty breakfasts, casual lunches, and relaxed dinners. It’s perfect for fueling up before or after a day exploring Yellowstone.
