JW Marriot or Amway

Hello, my husband and I are planning on spending a night in GR for our anniversary. Which hotel would everyone recommend? We usually stay at Homewood suites. Thanks!

Grand Rapids offers a couple of excellent upscale options for a special anniversary stay. Both the JW Marriott and the Amway Grand Plaza are centrally located downtown, providing easy access to restaurants, bars, and attractions. The choice largely depends on the type of experience you want for your night away.

Here’s a breakdown of the two hotels:

  • JW Marriott Grand Rapids – A modern luxury hotel with sleek, contemporary rooms. Guests often highlight the comfortable beds, high-quality service, and stylish décor. The hotel features an indoor pool, fitness center, and an on-site restaurant. It’s ideal if you enjoy a newer, polished environment with modern amenities.
  • Amway Grand Plaza – A historic hotel with classic elegance, located right in the heart of downtown. The architecture and lobby have a grand, timeless feel, which many find romantic for special occasions. Rooms are spacious, and the hotel has multiple dining options and bars. If you enjoy charm, history, and a hotel with character, this may be the better pick.

Other considerations:

  • The JW Marriott tends to feel quieter and more modern, while the Amway is more historic and bustling.
  • Both hotels have on-site restaurants, but if fine dining and atmosphere are important for your anniversary dinner, the Amway’s more classic settings may appeal more.
  • For convenience, both are within walking distance to downtown attractions, galleries, and nightlife, so either hotel works well if you plan to explore.

Summary suggestion:

  • If you prefer modern luxury and a quieter experience, go with the JW Marriott.
  • If you love historic charm, grand architecture, and a classic downtown hotel experience, choose the Amway Grand Plaza.

Both are excellent options for a one-night anniversary stay in Grand Rapids, so your choice comes down to personal preference for style and ambiance.
