Bathroom availability

If I am going for the day, are there easily accessible bathrooms available? At the visitors center maybe? I don’t want to not drink all day and walk around dehydrated. I also have MS and get overheated easily. Sorry if it is a silly question. Thank you in advance

Your question is absolutely not silly — it’s very practical, especially considering your MS and need to stay hydrated. Catalina Island is well set up for day visitors, and there are several accessible bathrooms available throughout the main areas.

Bathroom Availability on a Day Trip

  • Visitor Center / Information Center:
    - The Catalina Island Visitor Center in Avalon has public restrooms that are easily accessible. These are centrally located near the ferry landing, so you can plan a quick stop right after arrival.
  • Public Areas and Shops:
    - Avalon has multiple public restrooms along the main streets (Crescent Avenue and nearby pedestrian areas). - Restaurants, cafes, and shops also allow restroom use for customers — it can be convenient if you plan a sit-down lunch or snack.
  • Hotel / Resort Public Facilities:
    - Some hotels along the waterfront (even if you are not staying overnight) have publicly accessible restrooms or facilities in common areas. It is polite to ask the staff if you are not a guest.

Tips for Comfort and Safety

  • Carry a small bottle of water to stay hydrated; you can refill at restaurants or cafes if needed.
  • Plan restroom stops strategically — the main downtown area of Avalon is compact, so it’s easy to reach multiple locations.
  • If walking around outside the central area, note that restrooms may be less frequent; plan your excursions so that you can return to Avalon or a main facility as needed.
  • For heat management, consider lightweight layers, a hat, and sunscreen — most paths and streets have partial shade, but midday sun can be strong.

In short, you can comfortably enjoy a day trip to Catalina Island without worrying about access to bathrooms. The visitor center, downtown public restrooms, and restaurants provide sufficient facilities for regular stops, which is especially important for your needs. Staying hydrated and pacing yourself will make the visit enjoyable and safe.
