Overnight layover hotel recommendation

Our trip from Toronto in January has us landing in Atlanta at 20:50 and leaving the next day for Mexico City at 10:00. We are flying Delta to Atlanta and then sister airline Aeromexico to Mexico City. I’m assuming our checked luggage will not need picked up in Atlanta since we are booked on the same tickets. We’re searching for a close by hotel to spend the night and easily get to and from the airport. We would appreciate any recommendations you can give. We don’t need free breakfast, just a decent sleep and reliable airport transport. TIA

For your overnight layover in Atlanta, you’ll want a hotel that is close to the airport, has reliable shuttle service, and offers a comfortable place to sleep. Fortunately, there are several great options near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) that cater to travelers with short stays. Since you’ll be flying on Delta and Aeromexico, both of which use the airport's main terminals, the following hotels are very convenient for a quick overnight stop.

1. The Westin Atlanta Airport

The Westin is a highly rated, upscale hotel just a short 5-minute shuttle ride from the airport. It offers comfortable rooms, a 24-hour shuttle service, and is known for its modern amenities. The hotel also features a fitness center, restaurant, and bar, making it an excellent option for a quick rest and relaxation. The shuttle runs regularly, making it easy to get to and from the airport.

2. Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway

Located within walking distance of the airport, this hotel is a convenient option if you prefer not to rely on the shuttle. It’s connected to the airport by a covered walkway, so it’s a quick and easy option for your layover. The Marriott offers comfortable rooms, reliable service, and amenities such as a fitness center, restaurant, and bar. The hotel is well-suited for travelers with early flights or late arrivals.

3. Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Airport North

Another great choice located just a short shuttle ride away from the airport, the Hilton Garden Inn offers a comfortable stay with all the essential amenities. This hotel offers an on-site restaurant, 24-hour shuttle service, and a small convenience store. The rooms are modern and comfortable, making it a good choice for a brief overnight stay.

4. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Airport

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Holiday Inn Express offers good value for a comfortable night’s rest. It’s about 10 minutes from the airport by shuttle and offers a free shuttle service that runs frequently. The hotel also provides free Wi-Fi, comfortable rooms, and a hot breakfast in the morning (although you mentioned breakfast isn’t necessary, it can be a bonus if you need it). The hotel is clean and efficient, making it a solid option for an overnight stay.

5. Drury Inn & Suites Atlanta Airport

This hotel offers great value with a welcoming atmosphere and a free 24-hour shuttle to the airport. Drury Inn has a reputation for providing excellent customer service, free snacks and drinks in the evening, and clean, spacious rooms. It’s a nice touch for travelers who want a simple but comfortable stay without any fuss.

Key Considerations:

  • Shuttle service: Most hotels near the airport offer 24-hour shuttle service, which is convenient for your late-night arrival and early morning departure.
  • Proximity to the airport: If you prefer convenience, the Marriott Gateway is within walking distance, but all the above hotels offer quick shuttle access (usually 5-10 minutes). They all prioritize easy access to the airport terminals.
  • Room quality: For a comfortable night’s sleep, the Westin and Marriott are more upscale, while the Holiday Inn and Drury offer great value for a simpler but still very comfortable stay.

Given your limited time and desire for comfort, I recommend the Westin or the Marriott if you want a more upscale experience and are okay with spending a little more. Both provide excellent facilities and quick access to the airport. However, if you're looking for something more budget-friendly without compromising on comfort, the Holiday Inn Express or Drury Inn would be solid choices.

Enjoy your layover in Atlanta, and have a safe journey to Mexico City!
