One night layover in January Midtown

We will be arriving from Winnipeg at noon on Sunday January 12. Depart next day at 10:00 am. I am looking at Midtown for the one night so we are able to walk to restaurants and shops, aquarium too. The Moxy by Marriott seems like a good location and price. Any feedback back please on whether this is a good choice.

Thanks 😊

Your plan for a one-night layover in Midtown Atlanta sounds great, and staying at the Moxy by Marriott could be a good option for several reasons. Here’s a breakdown of why this hotel could be a great choice, along with some other things to consider for your stay in Midtown.

Location and Accessibility

The Moxy by Marriott is located in the heart of Midtown, making it an excellent choice for walking to restaurants, shops, and attractions like the Georgia Aquarium. Midtown is a vibrant area with plenty of dining and shopping options, as well as parks and cultural spots, all within walking distance. For your one-night stay, this location should be perfect for exploring the area without needing a car.

  • Restaurants and Shops: Midtown has a great selection of restaurants ranging from casual eateries to more upscale dining options. Some popular nearby spots include South City Kitchen, known for its Southern comfort food, and The Vortex for great burgers. The Atlanta Botanical Garden and Peachtree Street are also nearby for a nice stroll.
  • Georgia Aquarium: The aquarium is a short ride or a pleasant walk from Midtown, making it easy to fit into your short stay. It’s one of Atlanta's top attractions, so it’s great to visit if you have time before your departure.

Hotel Vibe and Amenities

The Moxy is a trendy, modern hotel with a youthful vibe, appealing to travelers who enjoy a stylish atmosphere. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it offers great value for the price. The hotel features a bar, game area, and vibrant, fun decor, with a focus on creating a social environment. The rooms are compact but comfortable, with a contemporary design. For a short stay like yours, the Moxy offers a solid, no-frills choice.

Pros of Staying at Moxy:

  • Great location in Midtown, walking distance to major attractions like the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park.
  • Reasonable price for the area and modern amenities such as a bar and lounge area.
  • Fun, youthful atmosphere with a lively vibe, especially good if you enjoy modern hotels with character.

Considerations:

  • Noise Level: The Moxy is located in a busy part of Midtown, so it can be a bit lively, especially at night. If you're sensitive to noise, it might be worth checking with the hotel to request a quieter room, or consider bringing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.
  • Parking: If you're driving, parking in Midtown can be challenging, but the hotel does offer parking. Be sure to ask about parking fees when booking, as they can add up quickly in the city center.

Alternative Hotels in Midtown:

If you’re open to other options, here are a few alternatives that are also in a central location with good access to restaurants and attractions:

  • The Georgian Terrace – A historic hotel with elegant rooms and great amenities. It’s just a short walk to the Georgia Aquarium and other downtown attractions. The hotel is a bit more upscale than the Moxy, with a classic Southern charm.
  • Hotel Midtown Atlanta – Another solid option in Midtown with more traditional hotel amenities. It’s well-located for those who want to explore the city and offers comfortable, spacious rooms at a reasonable price.
  • Ritz-Carlton Atlanta – If you're willing to splurge a bit, the Ritz offers luxury in a central location. It’s great for those who want a more high-end experience but still want to be near all the action.

Conclusion:

The Moxy by Marriott is a great choice for a short, convenient stay in Midtown. It offers a good balance of price, location, and modern amenities, making it perfect for your layover. If you’re looking for a lively, trendy vibe with easy access to local attractions, it should be just right. However, if you’re looking for a quieter, more traditional experience, you might want to consider other nearby hotels.

Enjoy your stay in Atlanta, and I hope you have a smooth and enjoyable layover!
