Uber/Lyft car seat
Does anybody locally know, when they are planning to implement the service in Boston(currently,it in NYC and LA only)?
Any suggestions, mostly ride to BOS from downtown Hyatt Regency? I know there are taxi/limo service with car seats, but they are outrageously expensive(around $200).
TIA
As of now, Uber and Lyft’s “car seat” option is not officially available in Boston. The service, which provides a child car seat for rides, has been implemented in select cities such as New York City and Los Angeles, but Boston has not been added to the rollout schedule. There is no publicly announced timeline for when it might be available locally.
For your ride from downtown Boston (Hyatt Regency) to Logan Airport (BOS) with a child needing a car seat, your options include:
- Traditional taxis: Some Boston taxi companies offer car seats on request, but as you mentioned, prices can be high, around $150–$200 depending on the company and time of day.
- Airport car services/livery: Several livery services can provide a car seat if requested in advance. Booking early may reduce stress and ensure availability.
- Bring your own car seat: If feasible, you can bring a portable car seat and use a standard Uber or Lyft ride. Many drivers in Boston are accommodating if you set it up yourself.
- Shared shuttle services: Some airport shuttle companies allow passengers to bring their own car seat or may provide one with advance notice. Prices are generally lower than private car services.
Additional tips:
- Always call ahead or confirm with the driver/livery service that a car seat is available.
- If bringing your own seat, consider a lightweight, travel-friendly model that’s easy to install quickly.
- Booking early for morning or evening flights is advisable, as traffic and airport demand can make ride availability less predictable.
In summary, until Uber/Lyft rolls out the car seat option in Boston, using a traditional taxi, private livery service, or bringing your own seat remains the most reliable approach for traveling safely to BOS from downtown.
