Accomodations Recommendations--June 30-July2

We are looking for recommendations for a place to stay between our flight from Seattle and departure of our small boat cruise. We will not have a car so a shuttle would be helpful. Aspen Hotel has a vacancy for $349/night but would like to know what else is available and maybe a little cheaper. We are looking to be in the downtown area. We would appreciate recommendations from past visitors or locals. It is hard to make choices based on pictures and reviews. Thank you in advance for your help.

Sitka is a charming, walkable town, and if you don’t have a car, staying downtown is ideal. Many hotels offer shuttle service to the airport or cruise departures, so you’ll have convenient access to your small boat cruise. Here are some options to consider beyond the Aspen Hotel:

  • Westmark Sitka Hotel: Located in downtown Sitka, this hotel is comfortable and moderately priced. Rooms are simple but clean, and it’s within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the waterfront. They can also help coordinate shuttle services.
  • Bartlett Cove Cabins / Sitka Sound Lodge: A bit outside the central downtown area but very scenic, these lodgings offer a more rustic Alaskan experience. Shuttle arrangements may be possible with advance notice, and the cabins are cozy and well-suited for short stays.
  • Inn at Whippoorwill Farm: A boutique option a short distance from downtown Sitka. Offers charming rooms and sometimes provides shuttle service on request. Quiet and less expensive than Aspen.
  • Sea Mart Inn / Bed & Breakfasts: Several small B&Bs and inns are in the downtown area, often family-run, which can provide a more personalized experience. Prices can be lower than larger hotels, and owners often assist with logistics like shuttles to your cruise departure.

Additional tips when choosing accommodations in Sitka:

  • Confirm shuttle availability in advance, especially in summer, as it’s peak season and services can be booked out.
  • Check proximity to the cruise departure point so you can walk if needed—many downtown hotels are within 5-10 minutes of the harbor.
  • Consider amenities like breakfast included or on-site dining if you’ll arrive late and want convenience.

Staying downtown will give you easy access to Sitka’s shops, restaurants, and waterfront attractions, making your short stay both comfortable and enjoyable. If budget is a concern, smaller inns and B&Bs often provide the best value while still keeping you close to everything.
