Whale watching tour

This is a long shot but I was in Sitka about 10 years ago and did a tour with a gentleman who had a 6 passenger boat and I think his logo was an octopus. Would anyone know the business name and if he is still giving tours? Thank you

Finding a very specific small whale watching operator in Sitka from 10 years ago can be tricky, especially if the business was a single-operator or family-run venture. The reference to a “6-passenger boat” and an octopus logo suggests it was a small, personalized tour company rather than a large commercial outfit.

Current Sitka whale watching options include a mix of larger companies and a few small-boat operators. While the original operator you mentioned may no longer be in business, similar intimate whale watching experiences are still available in Sitka, offering personalized tours with local naturalist guides.

Recommendations for finding the right tour:

  • Check Sitka’s small tour operators and local marinas, as some still operate one-boat businesses with personalized wildlife tours.
  • Look for companies advertising “small boat whale watching” or “private naturalist tours” for experiences similar to what you remember.
  • Contact Sitka Visitor Information Center—they maintain a list of licensed whale watching and small-boat operators and may recognize the operator based on your description.

Other reputable whale watching options in Sitka include:

  • Outer Coast Charters: Small-boat tours, often with experienced naturalists, focusing on whales, otters, and other marine wildlife.
  • Harbor Whale Watching Tours: Offers both larger boat tours and occasional smaller-group excursions. They are known for flexible, family-friendly trips.
  • Sitka Whale Watching Adventures: A newer operator providing intimate tours in small vessels, maximizing wildlife encounters and photography opportunities.

Summary:

While the original octopus-logo tour may no longer be operating, Sitka still offers excellent small-group whale watching. Contacting the Sitka Visitor Center before your trip can help confirm if any previous operator is still active, and the listed current operators provide similarly personalized, memorable experiences on small boats.
