Seldovia vacation
We’re booking our stay for 2 nights we were thinking with our rental car via the ferry. Is that too much time? We’re splitting time between Homer & Seward. Part of our Homer stay we would love to incorporate Seldovia and just dine know if two nights is too much and we should soend extra day in Homer or Seward or is two nights still give you stuff to do. We love hiking and want to see sea life and animals.
Booking 2 nights in Seldovia is generally reasonable, especially if you want to enjoy the area without feeling rushed. Seldovia is a small, charming town with limited but interesting activities, so two nights allows you to experience both relaxation and exploration, while also leaving time to enjoy Homer and Seward during your Alaska trip.
Here’s a breakdown of considerations and suggestions:
- Travel Logistics: The ferry from Homer to Seldovia is scenic but scheduled, so plan your arrival and departure times carefully. Bringing your rental car via ferry adds flexibility but requires checking ferry restrictions and loading times.
- Activities in Seldovia: You can enjoy hiking, wildlife viewing, and local culture during a 2-night stay.
- Hiking: Trails around the town and nearby areas are moderate and scenic, offering views of the harbor and surrounding wilderness.
- Wildlife & Sea Life: Kayaking or guided boat tours can provide opportunities to see seals, sea otters, and seabirds. You may also spot whales if the season is right.
- Local Culture: Small shops, local art, and restaurants give a sense of the town’s character and community.
- Time Allocation: With two nights, you have roughly a day and a half of exploration, which is sufficient for short hikes, a ferry ride experience, and some leisurely dining. One night could feel rushed, especially if ferry times are limited.
Alternative considerations:
- If your main focus is hiking and wildlife, you might consider 1 night in Seldovia and an extra day in Homer to explore the Homer Spit, Kachemak Bay, and surrounding trails.
- If you prefer a more relaxed pace and to fully immerse yourself in a quiet Alaskan town, the 2-night stay is ideal.
- Incorporating Seldovia as a side trip from Homer, with an overnight, works well without feeling like you are missing activities in Homer or Seward.
Overall, two nights in Seldovia strikes a good balance between experiencing the town and still having time for Homer and Seward. It gives you enough flexibility to enjoy hiking, wildlife, and local dining without feeling rushed.
