Sedona Az

We are visiting Utah in 2 week's Zion, after we leave there we are headed to Tucson will we be driving through Sedona? My daughter's boyfriend wants to propose there.

If you are traveling from Zion National Park in southern Utah to Tucson in southern Arizona, your route will not automatically take you through Sedona unless you specifically plan it. The most direct route from Zion to Tucson generally follows I-15 south to I-10 east through Phoenix, which bypasses Sedona entirely.

However, if you want to include Sedona for the proposal, it is quite feasible with a small detour. From Zion, you could drive south on I-17 through Flagstaff and then down to Sedona before continuing on to Tucson. This route would add approximately 1.5–2 hours of driving compared to the direct route, depending on how long you spend in Sedona.

Sedona is a beautiful location with many iconic red rock formations, scenic viewpoints, and romantic spots perfect for a proposal. Some popular options for a memorable moment include:

  • Airport Mesa – easy access, panoramic sunset views over Sedona’s red rocks.
  • Cathedral Rock – a short hike to stunning views, ideal if you want a more intimate outdoor setting.
  • Bell Rock – accessible and scenic, with nearby parking if you prefer minimal walking.
  • Red Rock Crossing / Crescent Moon Ranch – a picturesque spot with Oak Creek and the backdrop of Cathedral Rock.

In planning your detour, make sure to allow extra time for traffic, stops for photos, and the proposal itself. Sedona has limited lodging and restaurants in some areas, so booking in advance is recommended if you plan to stay overnight or have a celebratory meal.

In summary, a detour through Sedona is not required for your drive from Zion to Tucson but is easily doable if you want to make the proposal there. It’s a very scenic and romantic choice for such an occasion.
