Getting around snowmass

We are staying at Woodrun Place in March, first visit to the area. I thought we were closer to the village but for whatever reason this is where I booked and I now have to figure out the best way to get to the village and to the other mountains to ski and or to go into town. I’ve seen other helpful links to the RFTA but when I put in the route it show us walking .7 miles no matter what. I thought there was a shuttle throughout the village. We do plan to ski snowmass but also buttermilk and possible Aspen. Any help would be most appreciated.

Woodrun Place in Snowmass is located just a short distance from Snowmass Village, but it’s understandable that the exact location may make walking a bit less convenient, especially with ski gear. Fortunately, Snowmass and the surrounding Aspen area have excellent transportation options to get you to the village, nearby mountains, and downtown Aspen.

Getting Around Snowmass Village:

  • The RFTA (Roaring Fork Transportation Authority) offers free local shuttles throughout Snowmass Village. Even if Google Maps shows a walking route, the shuttle can save you time and energy, especially when carrying ski gear.
  • Key shuttle routes include: the Village Shuttle, which circulates through the main base area, lodges, and Woodrun Place; and the Snowmass Express routes, connecting to Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands.
  • During ski season, buses and shuttles are frequent, often running every 10–20 minutes, so you don’t need to rely on walking unless you want to.

Getting to Other Mountains (Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain):

  • The RFTA offers Mountain Express services connecting Snowmass to Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and Aspen Mountain. You can hop on the bus at designated stops in Snowmass Village to reach other ski areas easily.
  • Check the RFTA schedule in advance; most buses run from early morning until evening, with extended service during peak ski season.
  • If you prefer more flexibility, some hotels or condos in Snowmass also offer private shuttle services to other mountains, though this may be for a fee or require a reservation.

Getting into Aspen Town:

  • RFTA buses run frequently between Snowmass Village and downtown Aspen. The trip typically takes 20–25 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • You can catch the bus at main stops near Woodrun Place or the Snowmass Base Village. Buses are comfortable and ski-friendly.
  • Parking in downtown Aspen can be limited and expensive, so taking the bus is usually more convenient than driving, especially during busy ski season weekends.

Tips:

  • Check RFTA’s official website or app for up-to-date schedules and route maps; this will give you the best view of timing and stops near Woodrun Place.
  • Allow extra time during peak hours or for weather delays.
  • Carry a small backpack for personal items if using the shuttle, as ski gear can be bulky.

In summary, while Woodrun Place may feel a bit away from the village center, the free RFTA shuttles make it very easy to get around Snowmass, ski other mountains, and reach Aspen town without needing a car. Walking 0.7 miles is an option if the weather is nice, but shuttles are more convenient when carrying ski gear.
