Marriott Streamside to Vail?

Has anyone stayed at Marriott Streamside during the peak ski season and gone to Vail? Wondering if the bus transport is easy and reliable? Do you typically carry your skis or use a ski storage? Is there a difference taking the bus to Lionshead vs main village? Obviously I see on the mountian map where each is but wondering if the crowds are way different or the walk is way different?

Staying at the Marriott StreamSide in Vail during peak ski season can be a very convenient option if you want access to Vail Mountain without staying directly in the village. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect regarding transportation, ski logistics, and village areas:

Bus Transport from Marriott StreamSide:

  • The free town bus system in Vail is very reliable and frequent, typically running every 10–15 minutes during peak season. The stop near Marriott StreamSide is easy to access, and the ride to Vail Village or Lionshead takes about 5–10 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Buses are designed to accommodate skiers and snowboarders. There are racks for skis and boards on the outside of the buses, so you can carry your gear without issue.

Ski Storage:

  • Marriott StreamSide offers ski storage facilities, which is convenient if you want to leave your skis overnight or during non-skiing days. This can save carrying them on the bus back and forth.
  • Alternatively, many skiers do carry their skis on the bus using the exterior racks, which works well if you prefer to keep your equipment with you.

Lionshead vs Vail Village:

  • Lionshead is generally closer to the base of the mountain’s main lifts and has slightly fewer crowds compared to Vail Village, which is more commercial and pedestrian-heavy.
  • The walk in either area is minimal once you’re off the bus, but Vail Village can be more crowded, especially around the main gondolas and popular après-ski spots.
  • Both areas offer restaurants, shops, and ski services. Choosing between them mostly depends on whether you want to be right at the lift base (Lionshead) or in the more bustling village atmosphere (Vail Village).

Overall, staying at Marriott StreamSide provides an easy commute to both Lionshead and Vail Village via the efficient town bus system. Using ski storage is convenient, but carrying skis on the bus is also a common and easy practice. For fewer crowds and quicker access to lifts, Lionshead is slightly preferable, but both areas are fully accessible and enjoyable.
