A Little Help, Please?

This is a bit random, but….

We got married 20 years ago in Sedona, but I can’t remember the location. I changed my profile picture to a photo of the event.

The supporting details I can give:

It had to do with Red Rock State Park. We had to cross some rocks in a stream. Nothing too challenging as all of our mid-60 year old parents could do it. I don’t think it was a far walk to this spot?

My husband and I couldn’t find the spot when we were there 5 years ago. We are going to visit with our kids this summer, and I wish we could find it.

Maybe it doesn’t look the same anymore? Hoping someone knows the area well enough to help us pinpoint how to find it!

It sounds like you’re trying to remember a very specific spot in Red Rock State Park where you were married 20 years ago. Based on your description—crossing rocks in a stream, accessible to mid-60s parents, and not a far walk—it is likely one of the more popular and easily accessible areas along Oak Creek within the park.

Red Rock State Park has several creekside locations and short trails that are suitable for small weddings. A few spots that match your description include:

  • Cathedral Rock Vista area: This area is near Oak Creek and has some rocks and shallow stream crossings. It’s very scenic and doesn’t require a strenuous hike, which would suit your parents.
  • Apache Creek or Crescent Moon Picnic area: Both areas have shallow creek sections with stepping rocks and are accessible via short, flat trails.
  • Oak Creek Overlook Trails: There are short paths leading to creekside settings that include stepping stones and red rock backdrops.

It’s possible that the exact spot has changed somewhat over the past 20 years, due to natural creek shifts, trail maintenance, or vegetation growth. Some areas may look different now, but the general locations described above are likely candidates.

Tips to help pinpoint it this summer:

  • Bring your old wedding photo and compare it with creekside areas near the main picnic and trailheads in Red Rock State Park.
  • Ask the park rangers at the visitor center—they often know historic and popular wedding locations and can help you identify your spot.
  • Consider short walks along Oak Creek from multiple trailheads to see which area matches your memory of crossing the rocks.

In summary, your wedding likely took place along a short creekside trail in Red Rock State Park that is easily accessible and features stepping stones or small rocks across the water. The park staff and visual comparisons with your photo will be the best way to locate the exact spot again.
