Recommendation for relaxing resort with infant

Hello, TA community. I am looking for your suggestions and guidelines as they have helped me a lot in the past.

We are looking for a relaxing vacation this summer with a 4-month-old in southern Michigan. We want to get a break from parenting, go out of town, and relax for a few days. Could you please suggest a few good resorts to choose from? We will be traveling from Cincinnati. So, looking for something within driving reach. Also, please suggest things to do and things to keep in mind as we are first-time parents, and it would be our first trip with the baby.

For a relaxing vacation with a 4-month-old in southern Michigan, you're in luck because there are a variety of family-friendly resorts that cater to both parents and babies. Here are a few suggestions within driving distance from Cincinnati that offer tranquility and amenities suitable for your needs:

  • The Inn at Bay Harbor – Located along Lake Michigan in Petoskey, this upscale resort offers stunning lake views, a peaceful environment, and a full-service spa. They offer family-friendly accommodations and you can take relaxing walks along the beach or enjoy some quiet time in their spa (while the baby is napping, of course!). There's also a nice indoor pool, which can be great for a family dip.
  • Cherry Hill Campground – For a more relaxed, nature-based getaway, Cherry Hill Campground near Clinton Township offers peaceful surroundings and cozy cabins. While it’s not technically a resort, it provides a quiet space to enjoy nature. They have private cabins and plenty of space for strolling with the baby. The atmosphere is calm, perfect for taking things slow, and you’re close to nature trails and the local parks for short walks.
  • The Grand Hotel – Located on Mackinac Island, this is a historic resort known for its old-world charm. The hotel’s family-friendly atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for parents with young children. You can relax in the peaceful gardens or take a stroll through the island. The hotel has a laid-back, refined feel, and though the island is known for bikes and carriages, there are also peaceful paths for leisurely walks with a stroller.
  • Crystal Mountain Resort – In Thompsonville, MI, Crystal Mountain Resort is a fantastic family-friendly resort with a variety of activities. While primarily a ski resort, it’s also a great destination for relaxation in the summer months. The resort has an excellent spa, a wellness center, and scenic walking trails. The quiet, natural setting makes it a great place to unwind with a baby.

Things to keep in mind as first-time parents:

  • Baby Essentials: Make sure to pack all the essentials such as diapers, wipes, baby formula (if needed), bottles, pacifiers, and a baby carrier or stroller for walks around the resort.
  • Take Breaks: Traveling with an infant can be overwhelming, so don’t forget to schedule plenty of breaks. Take turns with your partner so both of you can enjoy some quiet time to recharge.
  • Quiet Time: Look for resorts that offer a quiet, relaxed atmosphere with a dedicated space for your baby to nap. A room with blackout curtains can be a lifesaver when trying to keep your baby’s routine while away.
  • Health & Safety: Familiarize yourself with nearby medical facilities or pharmacies in case of emergencies. Bring your baby’s health records and any prescribed medications to be prepared for any unexpected situations.
  • Babysitting Services: Some resorts offer babysitting services, which could provide you and your partner a break for a romantic dinner or spa time. It’s worth asking about this in advance!

Overall, a trip with a baby can be incredibly rewarding if you choose the right destination. Be sure to take it slow and remember that relaxation doesn't always mean packed itineraries—sometimes it’s just enjoying quiet time together.
