Honua Kai Resort

Has anyone visited Honua Kai resort recently? I do understand that each unit is individually owned but are you able to share your experience with the resort as a whole? I know it’s older but is it updated, clean grounds, pools? How are the amenities? Does the gym have up to date machines and are there pickleball courts on the grounds? I can’t seem to find that info on their site. We are looking for clean, comfortable, well looked after resorts. Any comments on why or why not we should consider this resort would be greatly appreciated. As well, any recommendations on other condo resorts with the above mentioned and a nice beach. Thank you in advance.

The Honua Kai Resort in Ka'anapali is a popular choice for many visitors to Maui, offering a combination of luxury and convenience with well-maintained grounds, spacious accommodations, and a variety of amenities. While individual units are owned privately, the resort itself is typically well-regarded for its upkeep and facilities. Here's a breakdown of what you can generally expect based on recent guest experiences:

Resort Condition & Cleanliness

Honua Kai is a relatively modern resort, but it does have some years behind it. However, many guests have noted that the property is well-maintained, and the grounds are clean and manicured. The landscaping is lush and tropical, and there is a strong focus on cleanliness throughout the resort, from the pools to the common areas. Many of the units have been renovated, but since they are individually owned, there may be some variation in terms of style and furnishings. However, the overall consensus is that the resort is comfortable, clean, and kept to a high standard of maintenance.

Amenities

  • Pools: The resort has several large pools, including a lagoon-style pool, an adult-only pool, and a children's pool. The pools are well-maintained, and there are plenty of lounge chairs and shaded areas to relax. Many guests have appreciated the poolside service, especially the option to enjoy food and drinks while lounging by the water.
  • Gym: The fitness center at Honua Kai is generally considered to be up to date with a good variety of equipment. The gym includes cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights. Guests have reported that the equipment is clean and functional, though it may not be as large or extensive as what you'd find in larger luxury resorts.
  • Pickleball Courts: Currently, there are no pickleball courts on the property at Honua Kai. If pickleball is a priority for your vacation, you may need to look elsewhere, as this is not a feature that is typically offered at Honua Kai.
  • Other Amenities: The resort also features a spa, a coffee shop, and multiple dining options, including Duke's Beach House, which is highly rated for its food and location right on the beach. The resort offers plenty of space for relaxation, with direct beach access and ocean views from many of the units.

Beach Access

One of the main highlights of Honua Kai is its direct access to Ka'anapali Beach, one of the best beaches on Maui. The beach is wide, clean, and excellent for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. The waters in front of the resort are relatively calm, which makes it a good choice for families or anyone wanting to enjoy the ocean without rough waves.

Why You Should Consider Honua Kai

  • Well-maintained and spacious grounds with direct beach access.
  • Family-friendly with various pools and activities for children.
  • Well-regarded for its clean and comfortable accommodations.
  • Great location, close to the Ka'anapali Beachwalk, shops, and dining options.
  • Excellent dining options, including Duke's Beach House right on the property.

Alternative Resorts to Consider

  • Ka'anapali Beach Club: A family-friendly resort with similar amenities, including a pool, gym, and beach access. It's located on a quieter stretch of Ka'anapali Beach, which some visitors prefer for a more laid-back atmosphere.
  • The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas: Another popular property in the Ka'anapali area, known for its spacious villa-style accommodations, multiple pools, and beach access. The Westin also has a great reputation for cleanliness and comfort.
  • Montage Kapalua Bay: A more luxurious and upscale option with stunning views, spacious villas, and a variety of amenities. If you're seeking a more serene and high-end experience, this is a great choice. However, it’s a bit further from Ka'anapali Beach.

Overall Recommendation

Honua Kai is an excellent choice for a family vacation or a couple looking for a well-maintained, comfortable, and conveniently located resort. While it doesn't offer pickleball courts and is not the newest property on the island, it makes up for it with its great amenities, beach access, and overall relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable place with easy access to Ka'anapali Beach, Honua Kai should definitely be on your radar. If you need more variety in activities, such as pickleball or a more extensive gym, you might want to consider other resorts nearby.
