Duval Loop
Is this service still active? When we were there in November I don't remember seeing any buses.
Great question! Yes — the Duval Loop in Key West is still operating, but there are a few important updates to know.
Here are the key details:
- The Duval Loop is *no longer completely free*. As of July 7, 2025, the fare was changed to $1 per ride.
- The route continues to operate frequently. According to the City of Key West Transit Development Plan, the Duval Loop runs every 20–30 minutes, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- There are 18 stops along the Loop, covering many of the major Old Town and Duval Street locations, including near hotels, restaurants, galleries, and attractions.
- You can track the bus in real time using the Passio GO! app, which helps you see where the next bus is and how full it might be.
- Be aware: the City’s Historic Seaport site notes that the Duval Loop “will be ending service at the end of 2025.” So while it’s currently running, there may be changes soon.
- Recent transit reports show the Duval Loop remains very popular, with some of the highest ridership among Key West’s bus routes.
In summary: yes, it’s still active right now, but it’s no longer free, and its future may be limited. If you didn’t see many buses when you were in Key West in November, that might have been due to off-peak frequency, timing, or simply luck. To use it most efficiently, I’d recommend downloading the Passio GO! app so you can track buses in real time.
