Sunset key rental
Have stayed at the resort a couple times in the past but now stay annually at our favorite gardens hotel over new years.
Thinking about adding a second week next year early January and can’t figure out if Vrbo or Airbnb rentals are available or only monthly minimum
Rentals?
Was considering the resort again but the $250 daily resort fee on top of already high prices is tough.
Sunset Key in Key West is a very exclusive, private island resort with limited accommodation options. Because of its high-end nature, most of the units on the island are managed directly by the resort, and availability through typical short-term rental platforms like Vrbo or Airbnb is extremely limited.
Here’s what to consider:
- Most of the properties on Sunset Key are rented only through the resort. The resort typically requires a minimum stay, often 7 nights, especially during high-demand periods like early January.
- Because it is a private island, there are very few, if any, individual units available on Airbnb or Vrbo. Occasional listings may appear, but they are rare and often subject to resort approval.
- The resort fee (around $250 per day) is standard, even on top of nightly rates, and covers amenities like golf carts, beach access, and some resort services.
If you want to stay for a week or more in early January, your best options are:
- Book directly with Sunset Key Resort well in advance. This ensures you get your preferred unit and dates, and you can confirm the total cost including resort fees.
- Look for nearby alternatives in Key West that offer daily rentals without private island fees. Areas near Old Town Key West or even on nearby Fleming Key might have short-term rentals with kitchens and other amenities.
- Consider adjusting your stay dates slightly if your goal is to minimize cost, as early January is peak season and rates/resort fees are at their highest.
In summary, Sunset Key is primarily resort-managed with weekly minimums, and typical short-term rental platforms usually won’t have much availability. Booking directly with the resort is the most reliable way to secure your stay, and nearby Key West options may offer more flexibility and lower fees if the daily resort fee is prohibitive.
