Best (worst?) Restaurants, and Lovers Key
My husband and I (seniors) are arriving today at Diamondhead Beach Resort for a quick two night getaway. Any recommendations for best restaurants? Or ones to avoid? I looked online--there are a bunch.
Is it worth going to Lovers Key State Park? We love nature, don't like crowds.
Thanks for any tips!
Welcome to Fort Myers Beach! For a quick two-night getaway, you’ll want to focus on a few standout dining options and nearby nature escapes without feeling rushed. Here’s a detailed guide:
Restaurants to Consider: Fort Myers Beach and nearby areas have a variety of seafood and casual dining spots that are popular with both locals and visitors.
- Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille: Excellent for fresh seafood and Caribbean-inspired dishes. Outdoor seating with views is available.
- Point 57 Kitchen & Cocktails: Upscale casual dining, great for a nice dinner with a varied menu including seafood and steak.
- The Salty Crab Bar & Grill: A local favorite for seafood with a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
- Charley’s Boat House Grill: Waterfront dining, very casual, good for lunch or a sunset view dinner.
Restaurants to be cautious about or possibly avoid (based on mixed reviews and tourist traps):
- Large chain-style seafood restaurants on the main strip—they can be overpriced and inconsistent in quality.
- Places that seem heavily geared toward crowded tourist tours, as food quality and service may suffer during peak times.
Lovers Key State Park: Definitely worth visiting if you enjoy nature and want a more peaceful experience. It’s quieter than Fort Myers Beach itself and offers:
- Pristine beaches with fewer crowds compared to the main beach areas.
- Nature trails for walking and wildlife viewing—manatees, dolphins, and various bird species are often spotted.
- Kayaking and paddleboarding opportunities if you like a bit of adventure.
Tips for Lovers Key:
- Arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds, even though it’s less busy than the main beaches.
- Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen if you plan to hike or paddle for a few hours.
- Parking is limited, so plan accordingly.
In summary, for your short stay, focus on one or two high-quality meals at the recommended restaurants and enjoy a serene morning or afternoon at Lovers Key to connect with nature. This combination should give you both relaxation and the local flavor of the area.
